I got around to getting a necktie and playing around with it. It got a bit easier to cut off oxygen to my head, but I'm scared of possible permanent damage just from practicing. Can anyone tell me if there's a real risk of developing permanent brain damage before even perfoming my first real attempt?

Hanging isn't my area of expertise, but I would imagine that those kind of risks would be present. Ideally, you probably wouldn't do any testing on yourself at all until you were actually ready to commit at that moment, and then the testing could be a preliminary stage in your actual attempt. That way, if your test proved fatal, you would have still achieved your goal, and if it didn't, you could try again on another appropriate occasion. But I know testing things out first is human nature, so at the very least you would want to make sure you had tested and fully understood any knots or mechanisms whilst not on your body, before considering testing them out on your body.

A forum search or look in the megathreads may find more useful advice on this question.

Thank you. I'm aware of the mechanism and stuff, but I really really want to make sure I'm able to properly kill myself before I even try because I can't bear to face the consequences. Also, it might give me a place of comfort since I know I'm ready and can properly kill myself with my pocket noose on the go any time I wish.

I've been lurking those megathreads before becoming a member but I guess it doesn't hurt to revisit. Thank you!
