I think I am approaching a situation where all I am good for is my life insurance.

If CTB right before bankruptcy declaration, then my creditors could not go after my life insurance, could they?

Sounds like a question for a lawyer. Your life insurance will not work for suicide until the suicide clause has expired, which is usually 2 years after it's been taken out.
