I'm a lurker and this is my newest throwaway account. I want to make my death as easy as possible for the people that care about me, so I've been throwing/giving away most of what I own. I don't want to be remembered, and it will be easier for others if there's nothing of mine left. What do y'all think, and how else can I help them cope?

A suicide note might answer some of their questions, if you think you owe them that. Also, be careful if you're giving away your stuff to people you know, it might raise suspicions. Most importantly, just focus on making sure you succeed.

I agree with Rolo, a note is really quite considerate and will assure them it is not their doing but a personal decision. Also, someone I know who CTB left pictures and videos for their loved ones when they left. People who were left behind found comfort in that. Something to consider if it wouldn't be too emotionally difficult.

Some really good points already made.

It's hard trying to get rid of things without arousing suspicion.

One idea: A dozen or so of my possessions are to be given to friends or family after I'm gone. This won't be mentioned in any will (too risky, my immediate family discovered my intentions 16 months ago) but will be just written in a separate note, along with some letters, money etc.

Another way of doing things is to lie about becoming a minimalist. But for god's sake, still try to be discrete getting rid of prized possessions.

write a long suicide letter where you explain your motives and what you wish for them in the future
