Knot and rope position

When people say they have the knot and rope positioned in the right place what do you actually mean.
Could someone tell me what it is (stupid I know )

I would put the knot behind the neck unless you plan to do drop hanging. In this case, it is advised to place the knot on the right side under the ear. Do not put the knot in the front, it will crush your larynx and you will feel pain.
