Left the Samaritans out of it even though its the obvious choice (here in the UK) so tried The Calm site (Campaign Against Living Miserably) and have been waiting on hold so far for 5 /10 minutes

Ugh when I tried to use the online chat option there was always like 100+ people ahead of me. I guess there is more mental illness than volunteers to "help" people. I would never want to talk to them on the phone though.

Careful with suicide hotlines, if you get the wrong person on the phone they'll call the police on you and you'll get a knock on the door. Play it cool on the phone unless of course you want help right away. Some idiot called the police and I wasn't even talking about suicide!

Isn't it different in the UK? I heard they have a suicide hotline in the UK that have no record of police calls at all, whereas the US you have to be more cautious.
