Have begun smoking. Cigarettes, not vapes. It might partly be SH, since I obviously know that they are injurious to my health. Everything feels a lot clearer when the nicotine hits. It's a strange feeling to describe. I don't know if my head is clearer, but it definitely feels lighter, if that makes any sense (it doesn't). At times I feel more concentrated, which I know is a property of the nicotine. Can't tell if it helps with the anxiety.

Anyone else smoke? If so, how many cigarettes do you go through a day?

I recently quit smoking and switched to nicotine pouches, trying to slow down. I guess it's better for the lungs but it's also harder to quit because it's a lot more refined. Wouldn't recommend if you ever plan on quitting.
If you feel like the main reason you want to smoke is to put yourself in poor health though, changing the way you get nic (like pouches or some other non-smoke form) can be considered harm reduction

For the record, I don't encourage anyone to start smoking, but it feels a little contradictory to discourage anyone from doing so on a pro-choice suicide forum :P

ive always had a fascination with cigarettes. cigarette smoke has always been my favourite smell for as long as i can remember so it was inevitable that id end up smoking. i smoke bc i enjoy it, but also as a passive way of self harm, i know its bad for me and thats one of the reasons i do it. i only smoke maybe five or six cigs a day, i just smoke when i feel like i need one or if im bored. at the moment i smoke sterling, i roll my own cigs bc its way cheaper. ive never been interested in vaping, i dont like the chemical smell and taste of them, and disposable ones are awful for the environment with the batteries and plastic, although cigarettes arent exactly great for the environment either :/ ive recently had a family member been diagnosed with lung cancer bc they smoked their whole life so ive been feeling a lot of guilt, especially from other family members telling me to quit, but personally i couldnt care less if i get lung cancer, and ill be dead long before that happens anyway.
i get what u mean about it helping with anxiety, even though people always say its just relieving the need for nicotine which causes anxiety or whatever. i definitely find it helps if im out somewhere, being able to leave and have a smoke break helps me not get so overwhelmed from socialising, and its "socially acceptable" unlike leaving just to have a break from socialising bc then ur seen as rude :/ sometimes smoking makes me rly sleepy so i always have one before i go to sleep lol

In my case, it makes anxieties worse.

I roll cigaretts, it s cheaper. I have excercise induced asthma and my "father" died from lung cancer (he stopped smoking at 36).

Don't wanna count how many cigarettes I smoke a day. I only start smoking in the afternoon, though.

I go through a pack a day. Depending on how my depression is, or if I'm drinking, it'll be more.

I think I read a study where nicotine actually has cognitive benefits.

i can't count how many. been smoking ~35 ys. used to be a pack a day for the most part but since my insomnia has gotten so bad, i wouldn't be surprised if it was 2 p;us a day.
check that it must be closer to 40 for me too

I've never smoked or vaped before, but nicotine is a stimulant so I guess it makes you more alert. Works the same way as coffee.

Good, DON'T START!! And yes, it's classified as a stimulant.

However, I think the danger of tobacco is somewhat over hyped. Not safe, per se, but nicotine does have some benefits, smokers have lower rates of dementia and it gives you a slight testosterone boost. Italians live longer than Americans, so do the French. They both drink like fish and smoke like chimneys. However they eat less processed foods and probably have lower levels of stress. I think stress is a bigger killer than anything.

Nicotine (distinct from smoking) itself actually has some potential medicinal applications. It's also a nootropic, meaning it stimulates cognitive function. Its a mental stimulant, it increases memory, it increases cognitive function. It has nootropic properties just like alpha catenin or neuro one or something.

Again, don't smoke!!! @sserafim its still very, very bad for you!!!

I was just forced to quit my beloved cigarettes after 25 years. My GI tract is completely inflamed. I had an endoscopy two months ago which showed I have just about every -itis you can have below the neck.

Smoking will get you in all sorts of health trouble, longer term. There are about a million things it can affect (and all for the worse). Of course, nobody enjoyed smoking more than me, and I found the nicotine hit beneficial. But you do have to look deeper than that, and ideally not get into the habit if you plan on sticking around a long time. There's a lot more than "just" lung cancer/emphesema/COPD that can develop as a result of it.

I smoked on and off for a number of years but never a pack a day. I enjoy cigars but I do them at most maybe a couple times a month. I used to enjoy hookah.

Its extremely unattractive when people smoke, especially woman. Smoking can be a phallic symbol when woman smoke. Freud would tell you that sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. George Carlin would counter that by saying, sometimes a cigar is a dick with a guy sucking on the end of it

I have the Rolls-Royce of hookahs at home (nice decorative exotic piece, my friend from Iran, her family has one, too, cultural decoration in their house), and used to do it a lot and I've also bought traditional Shisha from the Middle East. It's completely different than the fruity stuff in the states and Europe and Asia. A lot of the lounges in my area are trashy, but there are a couple good, authentic ones. My friend from Saudi Arabia owns one. The first time I had hookah was in the Middle East, and it was very relaxing.
Hookah is nice at a cafe or a bar or something but it's a lot of work at home.

I only smoke cigars in limited moderation. I'm a bitch and worry about my health. I definitely enjoy cigars and have five full humidors of different varieties. A friend of mine owns a cigar lounge in Vegas, and another friend of mine works at one where I live. Another friend owns a cigar warehouse in Canada so he gets Cubans.

The blends, the construction, the history, the connections, the lounges are interesting you meet interesting people

No more cigarettes. I tried all the brands from across the world. I did roll your own, too. I have a pack of the Chinese ones with the Imperial palace on them (Chunghwa) which the business class and political elite smoke but its decorative. Japanese and Korean brands are good.

Couldn't get into pipes. But Christmas Cookie and cherry are nice flavors.

European snuss is nice but the American brands have HFCS because Americans are obsessed with putting that in everything. Hate dip, hate chew, hate snuff, hate the gum.

30 yr smoker here, pack a day.
It's killing me, that's the point.
But expensive as hell...
I remember buying a carton for 15$ damn it. Could have never guessed how fucking stupid everything would get.
Anyway, it's gross and you shouldn't do it.

You did and it does. Still not at all worth it though.

One of my old coworkers smoked like a chimney and got mouth cancer. They cut is tongue out so he can't speak well and he has to eat everything through a tube into his stomach and had to undergo chemo and radiation. Not worth it. He's such an alcohol that he injects alcohol into his feeding tube and he's even, no fucking joke, douched it or whatever it's called to try taking it anally. He really is a brilliant man but he has so many problems! (Double degrees in computer science and biochemistry and a skilled, gifted, seasoned engineer). Oh, and he continued smoking when he was diagnosed with cancer. That's only scratching the surface of how crazy he is but thats getting off topic. Don't fucking smoke.

My other friend's dad drank like a half gallon of bourbon everyday and smoked 4 packs of cigarettes everyday but he lived forever. But thats really the exception to the rule. Sorry to anyone on this thread but you're a damn fool if you start smoking.
When I hung out with my crush he smoked a cigarette and I asked if I could try it but he said no 😭 he offered me his beer though multiple times
You could be like Bill Hicks and go through two LIGHTERS a day.

This is OP, please watch this lol 😂

Just before @sserafim says anything: The FDA released a study that said 1-2 premium cigars a day (so not Swisher Sweets or cigarellos or cigarettes), the cancer risks were basically nil.

It is definitly not good for the health. But in my opinion there are much worse things than smoking. For example being an asshole.
