The right to die. There are probably better, more interesting posts on this forum to read about this. But regardless, even though the choice of suicide in this forum is widely promoted - I certainly believe it should be - there are so many problems that come with it. A lot of problems that come into the discussion of mental health, and unfortunately the world shapes itself according to the beliefs of the general population. In essence, it's a hard pill to swallow but for anything or anyone to come into fruition, the sacrifice of convivence is a factor. Take farming for example. Many pro-animal activists are against the cruelty of animals in these farms. How some animals are bred to die, and never experience the outside, the sunlight, or anything animals should. They have a sheltered and cruel life, for the purpose of food. It's an issue, no doubt, but surely if there were a better way for it to be done, it would have been done by now, right? It comes down to human convivence. Why would anyone sacrifice their McDonalds, or their BBQ glazed pork ribs, or the benefits of the way the industry is, and put valuable resources, time and money into bettering it - especially for things that have no difference in your life? It goes much deeper than that, but that's just an example of how, no matter the destruction, if it banks on the convenience of people, the likelihood of it appealing to the mass population diminishes. The same with mental health: if euthanasia were public, you can only imagine how the general public will feel. Suicide rates would increase regardless of restrictions and exceptions. And because of that, I don't think it will ever truly be considered. Gay marriage is something that doesn't ride on the inconvenience of straight people, or religious people, but it was apposed for so long. And in many countries it is still forbidden, and non-straight people are ridiculed and killed. It's depressing to think about, but the majority of the world rides on the selfishness of everyone in a sense. That will never change. Because there is no one who isn't selfish.
