So, there are three ways a hanging could go down (to coin a phrase).

1. The rope cuts circulation to your brain, you pass out after 10 seconds and die peacefully from hypoxia.
2. You fuck up, stay conscious and die from strangulation.
3. If, like me, strangulation doesn't seem like a great plan, you jump from higher ground, snapping your neck.

Any tips on how one wouldgo about ensuring option 1, which is obviously the least noxious of the three?

I'm somewhat seriously considering hanging and honestly option 3 is my preferred. It would be the most instantaneous, and once you jump there would be essentially no going back if done correctly. Also would be the hardest to rescue you from if done correctly, as if you broke your neck well enough you would basically be dead in a second.

For option one, I've heard a lot of people say to lube the ligature with soap, oil, or something similar as this would allow the rope to tighten around your neck more effectively and compress your arteries, cutting blood flow. I've also read that ropes between 0.5-1 inch are the best. Make sure the weight capacity for the rope is higher than your body weight, especially for full suspension (for a "drop hanging" the capacity should probably be well beyond your weight). Other than that I've heard a lot of people say to make sure you loop the noose lots, as only a few loops creates a less durable/effective knot.
