Are any of you fans of JRPG video games? If so, which are your favorites? Do you like turn-based or action? Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest? Which system is the best? Who's your favorite JRPG character?
I agree with you that FF VII is overrated. I heard that IX will probably be getting a remake. They're making so many spinoffs of VII while ignoring the other games.I really liked FFVII Remake and only enjoyed the original a little. Trails of Cold Steel was a lot of fun too. If they aren't action-oriented then I at least like ones where you can position your characters in a battle.
I understand that feeling, I personally would like to see more of the FF XV or IV lore, but at this point I think Square realized that not even the fans agree on what they want.I agree with you that FF VII is overrated. I would really like to see the Breath of Fire series resurrected. BoF II and IV were such good games. I don't know why there were so few in that series.I'm a big fan of the genre, although lately I haven't been playing RPGs that much, the last great adventure I was involved in was in the Kiseki series, because I replayed all the games until I played Trails of Cold Steel III and IV for the first time and oh boy that was such a fun ride, I'm looking forward to Trails into Reverie.
I also really like MegaTen but I've only been playing old titles, well... I don't have a Switch and I'm not really looking forward to Soul Hackers II, I didn't like a lot of the changes to the gameplay.
Oh, I got platinum on Bloodborne a while ago too, it's funny how games like that can be simplified once you've gone through the whole learning process, it was very satisfying.
Tales of Destiny DC was recently translated! In its time I played it in Japanese and it was great so I'm glad that now it's open to many more players. It's one of my favorite PS2 games.
I'm looking at which RPG to continue with once Yakuza Kiwami 1 is over, because there I have Nier and a couple of Tales of waiting for me haha.
Btw, is there any JRPG series that you would like to see again? I miss Wild Arms so much... I would also like a sequel to Sonic Chronicles but that one is almost impossible :<

Also, I think that many prefer to leave the stories as they are, because FFX-2 and that concept of FFX-3 were... A massacre to Spira's world and characters. I'm not a big fan of FF but not all its stories are like FFVII that any change you make can be good.
FF IX has such great characters. I love how Quina needs so little in life to be happy. He only loves to eat. Vivi is so amazing. So many characters in that game learn about themselves and where they came from. Such a great game with great characters.I love(d) JRPGs, Persona 4 is my all time favorite... My favorite character would be hard to come up with though. Maybe Tidus from FFX? Estelle from Trails in the Sky is up there too. Kanji and Naoto from P4. Yusuke from Persona 5.
Turned based is my gameplay of choice for these. Even better with grids like the Tactics games and if there's some form of customization and not just a straight path or very limited choice.
FFIX eluded me sadly definitely wouldn't mind playing it had I the will atm in life but back when I was playing more videogames that's not one I got around.FF IX has such great characters. As I remember that was because Capcom did not have the staff and did not want to continue in the RPG market, it was so competitive at the time that a representative said so. Which makes a bit of sense, looking at the RPG catalog of the GC and PS2, the competition was brutal, even the GBA had some grat RPGs.I would really like to see the Breath of Fire series resurrected. BoF II and IV were such good games. I don't know why there were so few in that series.
If you liked the job-changing mechanics of FF III, you would love FF V. It has a brilliant job class system that's even better than the one in III with more job classes and abilities you can earn from the different job classes. My favorite classic JRPGs are Earthbound/Mother 2, Mother 1 (which was meant to be a reimagining of traditional RPGs in the wake of dragon quest), Mother 3, FFVII and VIII, Persona 2 eternal punishment, and some other Shin Megami Tensei spinoffs like Raidou.
Persona 3 is also one of my favorite games, as are many strategy RPGs series like Fire Emblem, not very big into FF Tactics. My first one was the GBA version, which was the first game that got localised in the west but is actually the 7th one in the series and you do miss a bit of context by not playing the binding blade.
There's some more atypical RPGs that I find really interesting and fun like pokemon mystery dungeon, devil survivor, and bravely default, but even stuff as vanilla as FFIII I've found enjoyable, especially the mechanic of switching between the different job classes (helloo, you can have catboys!)
Part of me wants to get into the FF mmo, but it's kind of bittersweet because my dear friend @Midgardsorm was going to teach me to play and help me get into it, then he passed very suddenly not long after we made that promise to try it out together. The appeal of MMOs is adventuring with other people, and I lost one of the finest homies who would've been the best possible person to start navigating the game with.
If I had friends or anyone to play with, I'd want to try the FF mmo since I enjoy the main games quite a bit.
You, my friend, have exquisite taste. Persona 2 getting the love it deserves always makes me so happy. May I ask if you have played Shin Megami Tensei V and what you thought of it in that case?My favorite classic JRPGs are Earthbound/Mother 2, Mother 1 (which was meant to be a reimagining of traditional RPGs in the wake of dragon quest), Mother 3, FFVII and VIII, Persona 2 eternal punishment, and some other Shin Megami Tensei spinoffs like Raidou.

Although you didn't ask, I'm gonna give you some unsolicited recommendations.I was 11 years old when Final Fantasy 7 was released on the PC, and I recieved it as a birthday gift at that time, and I liked it. Which games would you advise me to play today?

Play Dragon Quest V. Great game with recruitable monsters and choices in game play. I won't spoil anything. I'll just say the story gives you options.I've always loved JRPGs, I have so many favourites. Nier Automata, Persona 3, Persona 5, FF Tactics, several other FF games, Breath of Fire DQ, Ni No Kuni, a few Pokemon games, probably more that I'm forgetting.
I'm currently playing Dragon Quest XI, which is the first I've played in the series.
Only one solution: Get every game mentioned here and begin the de-aging process. Hope you have 10,000 hours free (Ys 8 Inferno can be your first 100).I despise all of you for making me feel like a boomer at 41.

You're lucky. Now my fantasy of putting life on x32 speed is reignited. We all go normal speed but aging and cosmic cycles are zipping by all around. No time for sadness as the grief of a lost pet is replaced instantly by something else, no time to think. I'm sick of the grueling grind of x1! Ptooi!I'll turn into a child again by aging soon enough
