• Hey Guest,

As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. The UK and OFCOM has singled out this community and have been focusing its censorship efforts here. It takes a good amount of resources to maintain the infrastructure for our community and to resist this censorship. We would appreciate any and all donations.

As someone who has struggled with actual delusions in the past myself, I find it incredibly offensive when people use it as an insult. Delusions are no joke! It's an absolute hell I wouldn't wish upon anyone! Today I saw a certain pro-life thread from earlier this month that called everyone in here delusional and it infuriated me so much! People need to seriously stop using it as an insult! Dealing with delusions comes with terrible anxiety and paranoia, it's not something you should joke about, let alone use as an insult. That's just not okay!

Well, some people have to live with that for the rest of their lives, but with right medication(s) (I don't mean standard pharmaceutical ones) it gets better if you learn to carry out responsibilities and make clear boundaries in life.

I wonder if they do actually mean it when describing us. I expect they probably do think we have a few screws loose. I have seen people here use it to describe them too. Maybe they also think they have something wrong!

I completely understand why it's upsetting to you. I suppose to an extent, it's just become one of those words people use to describe a whole range of behaviour they find abnormal. Like- people will call extreme sports 'mad' or 'crazy'. I don't think they actually believe the person is insane. Probably just reckless and thrill seeking.

I guess the definition is someone believing something that couldn't possibly be true. I actually think it isn't a good way to describe either groups. We tend to either like or dislike life because we like or dislike certain things about it- surely? And, a like or dislike isn't exactly objective. It's subjective. 'I dislike spicy food' is a true statement for me. So is: 'I dislike huge proportions of the things required to sustain living.'

The ultimate problem I think though is depression- they'll simply say that we have ideation so therefore, we're depressed and it's our depression that is making us delusional. So, we have a negatively skewed perception of reality. Until psychiatry gets it's finger out and establishes whether this is true definitely and publicly, I think we're going to be stuck with these labels.

I had a psychiatrist tell me I was delusional, literally out-of-touch with reality, because I'm trans. He said trans people don't exist and I was out of my mind and kept telling me to do conversion therapy [which is illegal in my country].

I also relate to your frustration, drives me up the wall when people are talking about ~I'm so OCD lol!~.

No, you're fucking not.

You don't have incessant, pressing thoughts going through your mind 24/7. You don't get extreme anxiety when things aren't done just. fucking. right. You don't redo and redo and redo things because the anxiety is telling you it's wrong, it's not right, just one more go.

I think anyone on those site can say they have been "mislabeled" by someone at some point. It doesn't make it right and the reality is, it won't ever stop.

People simply don't understand us. It's funny because we clearly understand each other perfectly fine. I think sometimes it takes for people to go through situations to understand the value of it or they may never understand.

I think people who use the world "delusional" probably don't even know the true definition of that word! Please understand that simple sentence. Sometimes others behavior can be so far from their understanding and it's easier for them to lable people delusional and be done with it, it doesn't mean it's right.

I've never dealt with delusions before so I clearly don't understand how it feels. I imagine they are horrific and terrifying as that person believes them to be real. I have only experienced paranoia (drug induced) and it was horrific! It felt so real that I tried to call 911 for help but in the midst of my paranoia I hid in my bathroom with the lights off trying to call 911, but I couldn't figure out how to unlock my phone to dial for help. (Thankfully, I didn't call)

In closing I'll say this to you, I'm sorry. I apologize for anyone that have done this and made you feel less than. I think it's a great idea to start a thread and spread awareness to this. Maybe moving forward this behavior will stop and people will be more mindful of the terms they use inappropriately. No psych term should ever be used as an insult anyway. We deal with enough in our daily lives and to log on and be insulted is a bit much. I hope you can find a peace of happiness today as I've found mines in my sleeping pills I'm waiting to kick in.

Please be careful not to take too much of those, ok? Wouldn't want you to get damaged or anything. Accidental od's can be scary. Glad you've found a way to feel better, but please stay safe! šŸ¤—

Trans people don't exist? It is kind of unbelievable. Medicine is surely supposed to be based on science. It's kind of insane when prejudices and assumptions are so strong. I once saw a reality TV type series on people with eating disoders. A guy with anorexia picked up a leaflet at his local GP's which read something like: 'drastic losses in weight can affect your menstrual cycle.'

Thank you. I only tried vapping with thc and gummies because I heard it helped with pain. That was a lie, but luckily im back at the pain clinic. So, do you take any meds for you're delusions? Do the meds help? And just curious, during an episode, how do you know if it's real or not? Only if you mind sharing of course. I love learning.

I deeply hate to come off like this, but that psychiatrist was not from my country. He's from a country that I sure as shit wouldn't even visit as a trans person.

That's tricky isn't it? I doubt anyone wants to come across as racist but then, certain countries are going to have very fixed ideas on some issues- which are bound to influence the people there.

Still- if those people choose to find work abroard and- especially in that line of work- they really ought to be invested in learning that countries customs. Not to say they need to adopt them themselves obviously but, if their view on the world blinds them to even the possibility of certain things- surely, they're in the wrong job! Or, they need more training.

I hope you found someone more suitable in the end.

No, only anti-depressants really. I have no definitive answers as to what caused the delusions coz proffessionals be like that, but I suspect I've had a depressive psychosis, hence my delusions among other things. Whenever I'm psychotic/out of touch I always have this weird kind of awareness where ik I'm psychotic but also 100% believe my delusions are real. Not sure why honestly. It's pretty annoying though as this is one of the main reasons proffessionals tend to tell me "there is nothing wrong with you" etc. Istg, it's the same everytime. I've given up getting diagnosed as of now bc of that. I'm just done with proffessionals rn. Maybe in the future I'll try again, but for now I just want to get on with my life as is. Thankfully haven't had any psychosis exept 1 minor episode a couple weeks ago due to stress, since this summer. Here is hoping it stays this way too.

It depends on the context. Some people have non clinical delusions and it's fair to point that out. But I'll definitely be mindful when using that term, I never considered that it might be offensive to people with real (ie. clinical) delusions.

I'm sure it was scary to go through that! I can't imagine. Luckily it was just 1 episode, and hopefully it never happens again..I'm done with psych professionals, I think they are faking it and guess on medication and hope they work. I really don't trust them and refuse to see them again.

I have bad anxiety and I never know if an episode is real or not. Thankfully I'm not scared of dying or I would be running to the ER all the time. I know it's easier said than done but try not to stress too much and when you are feeling overwhelmed, try to take a nap. Our brains are just different and we have to learn to rest when necessary are not overwhelm overselves.
