I keep thinking about riding a bus to the south, where the snow covered mountains are located in my region. right in the middle of the winter just a month from now. then get out of the bus somewhere there, lay down on the ground and let the cold take my life.

I've read a lot about hypothermia. I know that the initial stage is painful with a lot of shivering, frostbite and distress. but as the body runs out of energy, the second stage begins and the shivering stops. we just feel numb. eventually in the final stage, we feel warm as blood pumps all over our body surface and even forces us to undress. the final moments are peaceful before our eyes are shut and we go to eternal sleep.

you know what, except the first stage the rest of hypothermia sounds great.

is there any way to get rid of this first stage or make it pass faster? if we are low on energy and we have a empty stomach, is it possible that our body gives up on shivering way quicker and we immediately begin feeling numb and going to sleep ?

ive thought about inducing hypothermia from falling through the ice on a frozen lake. especially drunk bc stories/media

but from what ive read on non-methods, its one of those methods that's excruciatingly uncomfortable and pretty much guaranteed to leave you with extensive frostbite and giving into the urge to find warmth before actually killing you

i think you'd have to foolproof it. somehow dropping yourself ~20mi or so into the middle of the wilderness with no phone or vehicle, no insulating layers. there'd be no turning back and nothing would be in your hands at that point, including possibly dying from an unplanned animal encounter before even getting to stage 2

Hypothermia is excruciating especially doing it like that, and very hard to overcome your SI.

sounds horrific just imagining it. i came back inside 30 minutes ago after riding my bike around my neighborhood and i felt really cold even without snow. i can't imagine how cold it must be in the mountains with only light layers on. no phone or vehicle is really foolproof because without a phone you're pretty much doomed and can't call for help, but there would probably be no signal that far out anyway.

losing feeling in your hands in real time because of how cold they are would be pretty scary. i think hypothermia can only realistically kill people if they're stranded in a forest or a mountain. the method does sound very romanticized because of media and i've considered it before myself, but it just seems really painful and like a drawn out experience. your body would fight back a lot.

Even if one is able to make it less painful (eg sleeping pills), there is a chance of frostbite related loss of limb, if one is somehow rescued, or is able to cancel the one-way bus.
But even with sleeping pills, the time it takes for them to work is long enough to feel regret.
