It's one thing having angry and confused Karen's attempting to shut down SS, but this seems like another order of magnitude.

"Closure of suicide forums - EDM (Early Day Motion) 1129: tabled on 16 November 2020"

Side-note: used to think that Labour may have been a better option than Conservatives, boy I was wrong.

Harm, sadness, danger. It seems to be implied that for any young person, having ANY kind life is better than no life at all. By young person they probably mean below 25 age plank or so (but who knows? the motion text is vague, and probably intentionally so as to avoid bringing attention to the root causes of wanting to die). Keep in mind it's chronological age, which doesn't make the person immune from debilitating illnesses that have a strong negative impact on the quality of life, nor does it make the person immune to abuse, physical or psychological (although psychological abuse causes physical harm), poverty, status loss, injuries, breakups and other shit.

Chronologically young human life is viewed as always better than no life at all, and the possibility that life might not be worth experiencing for them is denied, while their desire to die is regarded as a product of a crazy mind, subjecting them to dubious treatment without the their consent. "We know better what's good for you." Okay, I think should stop.

Just had to look that up.

The UK's EDM is similar to the Change.org petitions in the USA. Right now both governments are too focused on Covid, even the US are ignoring the rash of young suicides in Nevada due to lockdown restrictions.

If they ban it in your country, use a proxy. If they ban it where the server is, move the server. The internet is still flexible enough to make such "bans" not really meaningful.

Even if it is banned in the UK, it does not matter if the severs are not hosted there. Anyone from the UK could use a VPN or other such methods.

Though it would be hilariously dystopian, I don't think they will try to arrest people for visiting suicide websites.

It's being introduced by Richard Burgon who is a Labour MP but the motion has cross-party support.

Labour (even New Labour) is ALWAYS a better option than the Conservatives unless you're already very wealthy and inherently selfish. The Conservative government has systematically destroyed the very fabric of society over the last 40 years over the last ten years, they have cruelly ripped away the social safety net and created the dog-eat-dog society we live in now. Massive rates of homelessness, child poverty, dependence on food banks and lack of hope and prospects are the inevitable result of people voting for a party whose primary interest is preserving the wealth and prosperity of elite.

The greater the economic disparity is in a country, the more broken and inhumane society becomes. Conservative policies are specifically designed to increase the economic disparity between rich and poor.

Free Opera Browser offers a minimized VPN function that let's you choose wether you want to use an IP address in Europe, America or Asia

Probably in very bad taste, but I'm just imagining courts using the death penalty as a 'punishment' for failed suicides.
Get the fucking government/ judiciary unwittingly to carry out euthanasia.

(Move along, nothing to see here; someone's a little over-tired.)

I've already learned everything I need to know so it wouldn't effect me too much, it has been nice to know I'm not alone, but I understand the closure of this place would be a nightmare for some people who rely on it for essential support. That's what these people don't understand. You can't get this kind of support from a 'mental healthcare professional'.

Hmm..
Maybe this is the moment where the admins should consider switching to an .onion domain.
Just saying, the forum might load very slowly for a lot of users after moving to onion domain but
1. It's relatively hard to take down an onion domain
2. There are "dark net"/"deep web" clients for iOS, Android, Windows, GNU/Linux, MacOS and even ChromeOS
3. More privacy for forum members
4. It is still possible to use "DDOS Protection Plugins" while hosting your forum on an onion domain
5. Some hosting providers, can mirror the homepage to the clear web but encrypt user information and forbid creating new user accounts for a couple bucks extra

Nevada isn't. I can assure you of that much. They're sending kids back to school starting March 1st in waves. K-3 go first, it's hybrid so part online part at school.

Just my 2 pence but the issue with using tor, zeronet, or anything else is "reachability". If the "average joe/jane" can't access the site (e.g. open browser, enter address, profit) then it's going to make it worse for those who need comfort/support.

Even if this site had no domain, all you'd have to do is add an entry in your hosts file with the suggested hostname and IP. The webserver on the end would still see the virtual hostname in the http headers and know what site to serve up anyway. Even if the site was blocked via IP, this would have to be done at the ISP level, and would also block access to any other site hosted on that IP-range (so highly unlikely). The same goes for DPI, opera's in-browser proxy or literally any VPN (where data is tunnelled), would circumvent the block too.

Hopefully I'm wrong, but I think the biggest threat isn't domain registrars pulling the name, but difficulty in finding a host if things went that far. Sure you could use an "anti-DMCA/host-what-you-want" provider, use cloudflare to mask the IP and stick a reverse proxy in-between the two, but anti-DMCA hosting isn't cheap.... and I have no idea how/who funds this site so I don't even know if that's an option.

"New Labour" is just Conservatives Lite. They're slightly better than the actual conservatives, because they're designed to be more palatable to the average working class person, but it's surface level only. All left wing party members have either chosen to leave or been kicked out. Kier Starmer has Conservative views in everything aside from a few token issues. New Labour is a firmly right wing party.

Hopefully this particular thing won't get past the early discussion stages because of Covid, but I don't have a ton of hope once that stops taking center stage.

There will definitely be an increase in suicide rates and an influx of people visiting these forums as the economic and social after-effects of COVID starts to take hold, which means there will be a focus on SS.

The problem is right now, politics is so black and white, and you're either on one side or the other, hardly anything in between. There's so little topics that both the opposing parties would agree on. So, what little there is, they will focus on to present some sort of cohesion and semblance of balance.

Unfortunately, preventing suicide is one of them. I'd imagine they'd focus on this to detract from the fact that the reason people are wanting to exit this world is partly because of this crappy world that these politicians have had a hand in building.

My only hope is that they consider the fact that for the number of people that SS has supported into successfully taking their own lives, that there should be an equal amount of people that has been supported by SS to carry on with their lives, and even more people who found the support they needed to ease the pain on here that nobody out there can really provide. I am one of them and I doubt I'd be fighting this long if it weren't for SS.

The system is to blame, yet, they want to shut down a site that actually brings comfort to many people. If people had better lives, they wouldn't need such websites. It's so unfair how the world just can't be a better place to everyone because of this sick system.

Are there no other options? What about LibDems? Feels like UK politics is much the same as in the US, only two "real" options. What kind of democracy is this lol

i remember pretending to be a Conservative voter on some left online game, and i opened a "cONSERVSTIVE MAJORITY PARTY" with the username "Torie Blue" and the room consisted of a poster of the Queen Mother, some roses (for the Tudor Rose) and a blue mat on top of a red rug squashing it flat, as in Labour losing

I doubt they would arrest you - but when you do things like download illegal movies/shows and your internet provider notices they will give you a cease and desist letter. Dunno what happens from there if you keep pushing though... denial of service?
