For most of my life since I was in my early teens I've had an obsession with gore, and lately I've particularly been watching videos of people committing suicide out of interest and curiosity, and also to take notes on ideas for my own eventual suicide.

Anyone else relate to this or is something wrong with me?

To answer your question literally, no it's not normal, it's very abnormal behavior, most people don't do this

I think its fairly normal to have an attraction to gore. Most people avoid real cases like videos of people commiting suicide, but looking at pop culture it seems pretty clear that most people have some facination with gore. Documentaries about serial killers, a majority of horror movies, if people didn't find gore intriguing then these genres would not be nearly as popular as they are.

Edit: Want to add, even if looking at real gore videos is abnormal, who cares? It's not like you're actually hurting anyone, so if it makes you happy then you shouldn't have to feel ashamed.

I enjoy watching real gore, especially the videos of live people being tortured and killed. as well as suicide videos like I previously stated.

When you're in a truly dark place, things like this are, for lack of a better description, somewhat comforting. They might give you the courage you need to commit to what you want to do or they might discourage you from doing it seeing how brutal it can be. Either way, I feel most who are in that state of mind are gravitated towards such things because it is relatable to their current mindset.

I can't tell if you're trolling or serious.

I won't say it's not normal because there's no such thing. I think it's an unhealthy or maladaptive behavior based potentially on a history of trauma or sociopathy. I can understand watching suicides to get information or even as a kind of fascination, but watching people get tortured and killed is to me indicative of serious issues.

My first post was mostly to state that a general facination to gore is normal. Watching real gore is of course abnormal behavior, and I can't say that watching people being tortured is something you should continue doing. Since you're on this site I'll assume that you're situation is abnormal to begin with, and as @avoid_slow_death put it, watching such videos can be a way to cope. Answering your original question of "Is this normal" becomes impossible since the starting premise is what most people would consider abnormal to begin with. I can however say that it's probably not healthy to continue watching real gore. I'm no proffesional, but from personal experience I can say that becoming acclimatized to any extreme is something you want to avoid.

it's definitely not normal to like that kind of stuff, but it's fine as long as you keep that curiosity to the internet and never to the real world.

At the deepest point of my depression I would watch gore videos, mainly suicide. I wish I had not.

I wish i was trolling honesty. Watching people suffer die helps release a lot of pent of anger and pain inside of me. I'm not implying I would actually kill someone or hurt someone myself, as there would be many consequences and I have no need to kill an innocent person. I just enjoy seeing the acts done.

you're pretty accurate with that I guess, it is a way for me to cope with strong feelings of anger and hatred towards myself.

Most people aren't fascinated with gore, so no, it's not normal.

I understand watching suicides. I've watched them. I can't fathem why someone would ever want to watch another being be tortured. Not a single person on earth deserves torture to begin with, unless one's a pedo, rapist, child molestor, or murderer. I feel like watching someone else being tortured and hurt; while being fascinated with the whole situation only makes light of it. I understand where you could be holding in a lot of pain, so you get the enjoyment that you seek from some of these videos. And that's not sarcasm, I do understand. But I also understand a lot of people have pain, and would never want to watch a torture.

It's not right.. not to be a b****..

Watching it should make you uncomfortable, if you derive pleasure from it I'd consider that to be a problem.

I think that a fair number of people are into gore, considering that there used to be subreddits such as r/watchpeopledie.

Some people like gore, others Hello Kitty. As long as you don't hurt someone else with it, who's to say what's "normal" anyway?

Ive never took pleasure in watching people get tortured or anykind of shit like that, but studied alot of suicide videos, trying to see how they did it,how quick, technique, etc.

For my own education.Definitely not entertainment or pleasure. In fact I often put myself in the poor bastards shoes.

I often put myself in the poor bastards shoes.

I was trying to analyse my own motivation for watching this stuff. Other than just morbid curiosity.

I often read true stories or better still autobiographical accounts of people whose circumstances are just awful. Many of my favourite non-fiction books and movies describe in intricate detail how bad someone's life is. I think the goal is to put myself in their shoes and realise how good I have it comparatively - hopefully foster some appreciation and gratitude for my own blessings. Watching this stuff seems to be an extension of the same principle - look how bad others have it - this guy has all the skin on his face sliced off and he's still alive and being tortured - appreciate what you've got, it could be worse!

But in the case of real gore videos, as opposed to watching the Pianist for example, I think that motivation is overwhelmed by the negative energy they impose. I've never once felt better after watching them. You can't unsee it. And the extremity of it is too much to handle in a healthy way. The comments section also gives away the real motivation of the majority watching, and being associated with that is entirely the wrong direction.
