If you have certain mental disorders do you know that no amount of medication or therapy is going to change that?

Is that what doctors are telling you?

It's not possible to answer this question with the scientific knowledge we currently have. The line between a mental disorder and just strongly held beliefs can be fuzzy. Our knowledge about known mental disorders e.g. autism, schizophrenia, etc. is still severely lacking, and also, there may be other mental disorders yet to be classified. Furthermore, it's not even clear how effective therapy and medication are at solving mental issues, or even which mental 'issues' they solve.

Most psychiatrists will tell you that even if what you have is not curable, it can be managed up to a point where you have a decent quality of life, and in time reach others' life quality.

Source: what I have been told by many psychiatrists

The only psychiatric 'disorder' that worsens is dementia, I think. Source: wiki

Exactly. That's what my psychiatry explained to me once. However, from my own experience I must say that any medication managed to change who I am and how I feel. Pretty sad.

I have depression and anxiety and it's not curable. It can be managed with medication and therapy but I don't have enough strong will to put work into it and try to get better, I'm too weak and just tired of all this

Psychiatrists and psychologists will always tell you that there is room for improvement. They are unlikely to straight up tell you that things won't get better, because their careers depend on you returning for treatment.

Psychiatrists always tell me there is hope if I do x,y,z treatment. When I was in my mid twenties I had a psychiatrist tell me that I would be 100% "cured" by the time I was 30. He was wrong. My 30s have been the worst decade yet, and my mental illness is getting worse, not better.

I believe my mental illness is incurable, but who knows. No one can predict the future.

I can relate to that. It may be true that if I tried a different kind of therapy things might get better. But I am just so exhausted--exhausted in a global sense--that I do not have the energy to put in the work that would be required. I feel like Charlie Brown and the football. So many times I have tried a new treatment or new therapist with renewed hope, and every time I have been disappointed. I cannot bear the thought of more disappointment.

I don't think many mental illnesses are curable, but I do think that with the right treatment plan and with a lot of time and patience, most people can manage their symptoms enough to lead a relatively contented life. That is, assuming that their life isn't full of too many stressors
