It really depends on where you live, I live in a strict state and had a psychiatric history and was still able to get a gun. It also depends on your history though. For instance if you were involuntarily committed then you can't get a gun.

Yes unfortunately, that's a federal law, although depending on the state you live in you could go through a private sale which doesn't require background checks.
Also do you have a 3d printer and live in the US?

Usually red states, back up plan would be getting a 3d printer and learning how to 3d print a frame for a handgun and buying the other parts online and assembling it yourself, you would still need ammo though.

Damn it! I live in a blue state, guess I have to get access to a 3D printer. Only, I don't know how to get access to it, without anyone being in the room.

Unless you have an AZ id, you'd have a hard time buying one. There's a shit ton of laws regarding purchasing from out of state and crossing state lines.
Or you can try to do a private sale and see what you can get away with. I'm not sure about the laws for that

I believe the first offense of involuntary admission grants you a 5-year ban on owning firearms, the second offense is for life, however you can get it waved by a judge if they deem you are mentally stable.
