Discussion Is suicide rage quitting?

Me and a friend were talking about suicide, and she described it as rage quitting.

It can be, but I think that not all suicides are motivated by rage, although maybe most are. In the history of humanity I expect there have been at least a few suicides motivated purely by curiosity for example, as strange as that might seem.

Maybe if it's done on impulse. However if it's planned out and thought over a long length of time then I would disagree about it being rage quitting.

Maybe, but quitting a game that's making you feel bad is usually considered a healthy option anyway. Hopefully one day people can see suicide the same way.

To me that phrase carries this implication of quitting before things are through, which I would say is a commonly expressed but inaccurate understanding of suicide. There are countless reasons one choses to end their life. Most of those reasons share a common thread of unbearable pain. While some of that pain could be experienced as anger, I do feel the phrase rage quitting might trivialize that pain.

Simple example is getting mad at a video game and quitting abruptly. Like in the middle of a Multiplayer game or something.

Aaah, makes sense! Yeah, I guess I can see some cases being like that, but many others not.

Depends. Do you quit the first moment things go bad, or do you make a rational decision to quit after better understanding the circumstances, and trying and playing your hands?

If you're still easily swayed by other people's judgement on suicide, then maybe you're still figuring things out? Im at the point where even my therapist stopped challenging my will to CTB. I'm close.

That's what I refer to my suicide due to the situations I face.

There's no better term to describe it.

Calling suicide rage quitting trivializes how much of an agonizing decision it is.

Lmao I was wondering the same thing..(the phrasing alone made me laugh for some reason).. I'm guessing it's just as it's written, quitting life in a rage..?

I'd call it a feeling of dispair and utter hopelessness! When you feel you have no other option but too flip life the bird and say f#¢k it l'm outta here! Now where's that rubber chicken?

It would depend on the reason why someone wants to end their own life, but in most cases no it would not be the same as rage quitting. Generally speaking: rage quitting is used negatively; for example if someone leaves over something that is considered (by some) to be petty - such as quitting mid-session because they are angry that they are not winning.

Suicide is a bit different, it is more the equivilant of joining a session/server that is incredibly poisonous - filled to the brim with hackers, griefers and abusive admins/moderators, and it is not very fun to play so you disconnect; in this analogy the server being Life.

Just MHO but I think a lot if impulsive attempts are rage quitting and sometimes they succeed. YMMV.

It could be. I used to be really mad at life and myself.

Now, if I ever ctb, it won't be because of rage quitting but sadness and everything will be planned properly.
