I dont know. I think you have 20 minutes before you are unconscious. Others that survived have reported scary and some said it was not. Some had pain and some not. I suppose that's why N is more peaceful. You fall asleep in 3 to 5 minutes.
If you have regrets theres the 20 minutes.

I've read in the SN FAQ that faiting (quick loss and gain of consciousness) occurs after about 12 minutes, while to become fully unconscious it may require up to 20 minutes.

Would suggest you read up properly on the SN guides in the Resource Compilation thread. Also see the PPH. Plus there is a thread somewhere where someone has collated all the member attempts into a Google Docs document for successes and failures, including narrative accounts where they exist.

Sodium nitrite might acts just as overdosing poppers does. Di
amyl / propyl / butyl - nitrites are inhalants and they produce exactly the same symptoms. Tachycardia to compensate vasodilation, dizziness and methemglobinemia.

It induces shortbreathing due to the lack of oxygen available in the blood (oxygen travel in the blood with Fe2 molecules and nitritre turn Fe2 to Fe3).

Never done Sn, but overdosing poppers is very unpleasant. Felt very weak, unable to move, disoriented like being drunk. Did not passed out.

All of the goodbye threads I've seen while I've been here (not on every day, mind you) have been SN, and a few have decided to update after they drink it. From what I can tell, they feel weird but not necessarily "bad." Like not painful, I guess. Heart pounding, shakes, pricking of skin kind of thing. So in my mind, no, because I've gotten accustomed to those symptoms with my meds. But if those symptoms would scare you, yes. If you're expecting them, it's less likely to be scary. Also, if you're positive, it's less likely to be scary too. Depends on how you could deal with that.

Take my answer with a grain of salt (pun intended)! I've never actually drank SN - actually, I'm having a hell of a time finding any in my area. This is just the pattern I've noticed.

I think that it's largely subjective. Some people may find the symptoms scary, while others would only deem them mildly unpleasant.

I think I am going to be scared. All of the symptoms look awfully like hyperventilation which makes it hard for me to try. It is the worst feeling I know. Feels like dying. I always have to puk and shit at the same time too. I hope these two things wont happen because it gives me allot of pain and makes it worse, but I am afraid it will even with the medicine to not puk. Mine body is sensitive. I hope I don't panic over it like I always do. I try to visualize it allot, these last 20 minutes, to train myself to stay calm and accept it. So in some way I know a little how it feels, but it is still hard to prepare for the unknown. Now I will actually die.
I am going to lay bed, close mine eyes, have earplugs and try to meditate to stay calm. Hoping for the best. I don't think SN is that peacefully. SN seem to be more popular because it is reliable and cheap. Looks like nobody survives ~20 g with no antidote, even with puking. Wish I could have some N.

I am not scared of death. I know it is the right thing for me. However I am scared of surviving my attempt.

For those of us with serious pre-existing conditions, I'd wager it's pretty scary. I don't trust Philip Nitschke regarding peacefulness of many methods. His work is awesome and very much appreciated but he makes big bucks from putting people's fears to rest.

I think the truth probably lies somewhere in between "worst case scenario" and what Philip promises.

Does Philip Nitschke say so, regarding SN as reliable and peaceful? I read different views in this forum, and it would be interesting to know his views in this matter.

It depends on what makes you uncomfortable. I took it being very loaded on benzos, and the only slightly scary symptom was a racing heart. However, I don't know if that was the SN or the realization of what I had just done.

Reminds me of the time I spilt a whole bottle of poppers in my small and not very well ventilated bedroom at 14. Jeez, my head was spinning and I was panicking all day about my Mom finding out.

Basically what PN thinks about SN is in the PPH.
