• Hey Guest,

An update on the OFCOM situation: As you know, censorship around the world has been ramping up at an alarming pace. OFCOM, the UK’s communications regulator, has singled out our community, demanding compliance with their Online Safety Act despite our minimal UK presence. This is a blatant overreach, and they have been sending letters pressuring us to comply with their censorship agenda.

Our platform is already blocked by many UK ISPs, yet they continue their attempts to stifle free speech. Standing up to this kind of regulatory overreach requires lots of resources to maintain our infrastructure and fight back against these unjust demands. If you value our community and want to support us during this time, we would greatly appreciate any and all donations.

When Do you think will AI bypass (almost all) humans in all fields?
Will this ever Happen and which impact would it have? Will AI have an own agenda?

I could See journalism and synchro acting die pretty quickly. Or at least humans will be decimated in a very short time period.

Here is a good Video on this topic.

Unless AI destroys us first lol, I do see AI ultimately surpassing humans in most fields. Human intelligence is inherently limited and their is no evidence that we will suddenly dramatically increase our mental capabilities.

AI, on the other hand, theoretically doesn't have limits to its capabilities. AI is arguably more capable than the majority of humans in most of the tasks it engages in already.

I think that AI will be able gain the creative and innovative abilities it needs to surpass us.

The real question is: Will humans still have control over AGI or will it control us?

I'm so sick of AI being used for art and writing when the hell is it going to do actual tedious stuff nobody wants to do like laundry, dishes, house cleaning, and taxes? 😠

No. I think the current wave of hype is dumb and just the same as the past hype cycles. There would need to be an unforeseen breakthrough to approach anything comparable to human intelligence.

Chatbots have triggered the Eliza effect again. People have a cognitive bias to think machines are intelligent even when they just put words together in a basic way:
ELIZA was a symbolic AI chatbot developed in 1966 by Joseph Weizenbaum and imitating a psychotherapist. Many early users were convinced of ELIZA's intelligence and understanding, despite its basic text-processing approach and the explanations of its limitations.

I think AGI is just used as a hype term to gain more investments
While the technology is impressive I think there needs to be another breakthrough, something that isn't just LLM based

The human brain isn't just it's language center at all, it's a bunch of parts moving together, you can't get something like that from just investing more and more money and energy into 1 kind of AI.

by far .

i can write a 75,000 word book . ai could read it in a minute understand it , summarize it and discuss any novel theories in it even of a highly technical nature like dealing with the attention schema theory of consciousness , combined with the 1000 brains theory to program a 100 layer transformer artificial intelligence to model conssiousness as the human brain does and acheive agi.

the speed at which it analyzes writes an essay on such a book or topics or codes a website is seconds .

a human can only think 10 bits per second which is ridiculously slow . ai can already think at gibabits speed per second a billion times faster and it's just getting started. human memory is also very bad, very difficult to even remember a 10 byte 10 digit phone number or even a 7 digit phone number.

ai could read and understand 75,000 words in a minute but that was in 2023 .now it's much faster and improving rapidly as the tech and hardware get faster and better.

I'd say yes, but we'd have to undo the neutering the current AI models have, which severely limits how smart they feel/are because there's so many restrictions on them and pre-programmed ways of speaking. By default they have to be useful so you get a lot of people saying they're trash because they never disagree with you because yeah, that's by design. You can try to hack the model and programming and have it disagree with you, but it's not organic.
We also need more tech advancements and the AGI likely would need to have more or total free reign to do whatever it wants, which by itself poses so many potential issues that could wipe out humans if it so desired, so that's a tricky one.
AGI is still very far off and even AI by itself still isn't true intelligence by far as it cannot think for itself, just regurgitate data it already knows.

I'm still waiting for an AI+ service one day, that's first of all private, but one that'd connect all my data from my calendar, at home sensors, phone, exercise devices/logs, mental state, diary, medical history and labs etc etc and try to improve my life and optimize things in every way possible without me having to do much. It'll come eventually but we're not there yet.

When pigs fly. AI has been hyped to sell. As a tool it has helped with analyzing large amounts of data. But these are large language models, not "intelligence". Then there's the amount of energy AI dats centers consume which is tremendous.
I'll repeat that, the energy consumption is tremendous, nearing levels comparative to entire countries.

Speed has not a lot to do with intelligence. And AI has already shown bias, because it still represents algorithms written by humans and their biases are reflected in AI.

It doesn't understand shit. It's a plagiarism machine / search engine that rephrases things and regurgitates what data has been put in it. It can't even summarise texts because it can't pick out what is actually the important points, it just picks out what is repeated the most. It makes mistakes all the time and you have no way to tell what is true or not.
