I started antidepressants in May and they were helping to lessen suicidal ideation but I think gradually my it became harder and harder to fall asleep. That never was a problem for me before..
Right now I feel that I don't have enough sleep and wake up tired.

I am really afraid to develope full blown insomnia and that it won't go away after I quite antidepressants.

Does anybody else went through similar side effect?

You may want to fight / counter it , especially with the help of natural stuff
There are more. Associations work well too

I was on antidepressants that certainly didn't help my insomnia. Something that's helped me lately is a medicine called hydroxyzine. It's an antihistamine but it's more potent than something OTC like Benadryl. It also has a (rather small) effect on serotonin.

It's helped me sleep pretty well in the past week. More natural sleep aids like melatonin never seem to help me, but they may help you. Perhaps you could talk to your doctor about all of this, see what they recommend? Best of luck, mate.

I don't want to take medication to counter other medication side effect. I am scared that antidepressants damaged my ability to fall sleep forever.
I never struggled with this before.

That's fair. I'm sorry if I pressured you or anything.

It depends on the chemical structure of your antidepressants. Tricyclic antidepressants normally help to sleep. However they have other nasty side effects. For me sleeping despite taking bupropion was horrible. Had to take other medication in order to sleep. As far as i know this is very often/ always reversible if you stop taking them.

I hope it's reversible. Thank you

I had a lot of trouble sleeping on bupropion but once I woke up and got energized in the morning I was fine even on 4 hours sleep. Normally I need like 12 hours.

Some SSRIs aren't beneficial for sleeping at all.

I take an SSRI, have started gradually tapering off of it though, and my sleep is a mess. It takes me a good 2 - 3 hours of rolling around my bed to even fall asleep and then it's broken and restless sleep. I often wonder if the meds are to blame. I feel very tired during the day but when the time comes to sleep, I just can't. Sorry to hear that you're also experiencing sleep problems. I hope you're able to sort them soon, insomnia absolutely sucks.
