Should've CTB'd over 2 years ago and I have the feeling that I will never be able to complete (never even attempted). I don't want to end up still alive in 5 or 10 years, hell even 1 year, but see no way that I actually CTB. Is there a higher chance that I'll be able to go through with an impulsive method (i.e. firearm/jumping, where you just pull a trigger or jump) or a non-impulsive method such as inert gas asphyxiation where you have to continuously not do something. Basically, is one action to end one's life harder than continuously avoiding action to save one's life? I don't even know why I'm asking this I should just go and do it but I guess this is another way of procrastinating or avoiding starting.

I'm sorry for your struggles. (And share your dilemma). My view on this is to always plan it carefully, as much as possible, if indeed the plan is to succeed. I know a couple of people who did an impulsive act which did not succeed because it wasn't well-considered (overdosing on over-the-counter medications will make you throw-up and possibly hurt your liver forever, for example). The impulsive methods you mentioned actually can be quite successful if given a reasonable amount of research. (The higher the height and the better the gun the better likelihood of success, to simplify). Similarly, the inert gas method when done right can be very quick and painless. But the final step will also require an impulsive, or deliberative, act, once you have all the materials assembled.

So while this doesn't really answer your question, I believe you've been giving this enough thought to make any act not a purely impulsive one, even if it feels like it is.

Whatever you do do, or don't do, I wish you the best and that you can find peace, with your life, or the end of it.

I guess impulsive was probably the wrong word. I would plan for whatever method I would choose and wouldn't do a stupid one like cabinet pills, I just meant that the final act can be either one action that you do, such as jumping or pulling a trigger, versus one that you have to continuously refrain from saving yourself, such as inert gas.

I'm an impulsive one. I keep seeing this discussion and I want to help you guys understand this. I could never plan a day ahead of time and do it, it's unimaginable for me to ever consider that. I actually never thought people did such a thing until I came to this site. You guys may never understand me and I'll never understand that process of thinking. We can agree to disagree.

I think for me, I'll always have SI, sometimes I'm active and sometimes in passive, but the thought never goes away. What makes me impulsive is I carry this certain pain/ trauma and it's like I'm floating above water. If you add 1 more thing, no matter how small it feels like a large brick is on top of my head and I naturally sink (attempt). I simply can't process anymore. My method has always been pills, whether they are prescribed or not.

The day of my attempt, I promise the plan is very clear and I always believe those pills will be enough. There has never been a time I did it for attention as I always made sure I had days alone so nothing could go wrong. It may be "stupid" to you guys but in that moment, it makes perfectly great sense to me.

I hope that clears anyone's misconception of the impulsive attempter. If I ever attempt again..It will be an impulsive one.

I might have to do the same thing, except I want to have a lethal plan ready so that if I do an impulsive attempt, it will be successful. Basically have all the supplies on hand and when there's like a mental "suicide tunnel," execute. I don't see another way for me.

"impulsive" is never a good decision to CTB but I agree, there has to be some impulsiveness to go through with the plan. Methods like SN are not meant to be for impulsive attempts bc they require a protocol incl. fasting to be most effective, so do other OD methods.

Imo there're very few methods that can be used "impulsively" and they are much more peaceful to shooting/jumping. Imo it's cyanide and hanging - that if the needed things are prepared.
