My home is like a trash can.

Everything is a mess, and I can't take care of it anymore. Three days ago, I managed to do the dishes. I was proud of myself, but now I have to do everything again.

I also have to wash my hair, which is greasy, but I don't have the energy.

The only thing I can still do is feed the cats/clean the litter box because my cats don't have to suffer because of me.

Today, I didn't eat anything because my stomach hurts from the anxiety.

My neighbor wants to come over in two days because she's bored being alone at home. I don't know what to do. I don't want her to come, and don't want to upset her.

How do you find the strength when things are not going well at all?

Thank you 🖤

For me, I try to start with just doing one thing every day. Just one, that's my goal.
It might be a house chore, or fixing something that's broken, or putting things away, or (whatever).

I'll try to get motivated by putting on music to get me moving and deciding on a reward to look forward to.

If it's a big thing then I'll make stages with their own rewards. Vacuuming for instance is a two part thing - first is picking up things from the floor. Do that and I earn a bowl of ice cream (that's a great for me)
Then after that, if I can get the vacuuming done, I'll get something else.
And if that has to wait until another day, that's okay. I did my one thing for the day... and it's nice to see the result of my effort.

I'm sure others have suggestions, probably better than mine. But you can do this! Just be reasonable with what you expect from yourself and keep trying. Little by little ... and if you miss a day it's not a disaster. You can try again tomorrow.

How did I get here?

I often find it impossible to do the simplest of tasks. I can never find the energy to brush my teeth or actually clean anything.

The only time I ever get off my ass and do something is when I have literally nothing else to do. I can't really think of any suggestions, but I really hope things improve for u <3

My room is a dumpster, so I can relate to that. I am however trying to keep my desk clean (make no mistake, no human in their right mind would look at my desk and say "Wow, that's clean!", but I'm trying, that's what matters. It's WAY better than it would be otherwise anyway).
So I'd say I don't actually find the strength to do it in the sense that my room is never actually clean, let alone my house, BUT I'm currently striving to get it as clean as I can. I'm trying to clean/throw a bit of rubbish every day. If I do that for two weeks, the room will actually be clean.

TL;DR: I don't think you need to muster the force to fix everything. Fixing a little bit at a time goes a long way ;)

I've always been amazed by this pattern. It's logical, but what really surprises me is how accurately this factor (the cleanliness of the room) reflects a person's mental state or mood - like a mirror of the soul.

Sometimes I notice that my room looks messy, and I remember that lately I've been feeling a bit sadder than usual.
Or, on the other hand, if I feel better than average, the room looks cleaner and tidier.

Haha that's funny, I notice the opposite, extremes excluded. If I feel fine, my room will look like shit all the same except I'll be fine with it lol.
Whereas if I feel bad I'll usually fix it in an attempt to feel better. If I feel truly down, then I won't have any energy to fix it. Funny how that works.

I have become extremely minimalist in the last few years. So my room is pretty clean. Mainly because there's not much in it. I used to have vases and figurines and all sorts of stuff to decorate my room. Not anymore. I've removed all that stuff.

Thank you all for your kindness. 🖤
I managed to wash myself, my hair is clean, and I ate a little. Now I'm going to do my housework, even if the amount of work to do and the mess makes me want to cry.
