I'll be leaving behind my young child, but I believe they'll be better off without me. I watched my dad suffer from suicidal tendencies my entire life before he ultimately passed away. Since my child is this young, they won't understand. I think I can justify it to myself. My mind is warped. I hope this really is good bye.

Is there someone who's able to take care of your child if you're not there? They may be too young to understand right now, but I don't know if they'll start questioning why you chose to ctb when they're older.

I agree with @Maxtothemax , that when the child gets older they will wonder why you chose to ctb. Please take a step back and relax for a little while and think about your child and you together. You are a loving person to your child and to YOURSELF! You are part of our family here also and I for one love and care about you and want plenty of bright sunny days with you walking hand in hand with your child. Love and peace to you global family member!:hug:

The father would be there. Is a chronically depressed, suffering mother really so much better than a dead one? One who could never impart her sadness onto her child? My depravity is apparently a component of my personality :(

I'm the same. I have a daughter and feel her life would be better without a mentally ill dad. I don't want her looking after me all her life. I hate myself and how life has come to this.

OP, I don't know anything about you or your life. I won't try to convince you to live or seek solutions, nor urge you to suicide. I respect your right to choose, to change your mind, to seek help, to end your life, etc. I only want to say that I hope you won't suicide in the same home where the child lives, and especially that you won't do it when the child is present.

It's easier to make a good parent out of a bad one than it is to make a good parent out of a dead one. I don't have children and never will, but I'm worried about the knock-on effect my suicide will have on my young nieces. Even if there's another adult your child can bond with, your suicide is still going to cast a dark cloud over your child's life. That said, while my mother's death was from cancer, sometimes I wish it had been suicide so I could direct my anger at her, as your child will at you.
