My German friends hope China will save us from Putin. I just read that China considers to send peace troops to Ukraine. How stupid is Trump? Almost everyone hates him in Germany. We will all beg to suck Xi's cock to come to save us. We don't trust the US administration anymore. Europe will try to be friends with China if the US abandons us. I read a comment in Foreign Affairs that maybe Friedrich Merz the very likely New chancellor will have a good relationship with Trump. This must be a Joke. We All are pretty pissed at the US. Most parties in Germany were very US friendly. But Trump would sell us in a blink of an eyelash. The speech of Vance Was an insult. And China will know how to exploit is. What a savage Move Mr. Trump! (irony)

Selling Europe to Putin how? Stopping the complete depletion of the Ukrainian male population? I don't support Putins invasion but no one has ever told me how Ukraine, with a much smaller population, is supposed to beat Russia who are famous for beating people via superior numbers.

I would certainly have a Russian invasion in the back of my mind is I was an Eastern European but I don't see any good evidence Putin is planning such a large scale invasion.

I think we are all pretty anxious as fuck. And there is a German saying anxiety is never a good guide for your actions.



If Trump encourages Putin to do whatever they want with us, I think Europe will panic. We already Do. Trump even wants that. Ukraine is pretty pretty desperate and China could be the only power to save them. Whether that's a good longterm deal is a different topic.



Though I think Europe could try to go this route to punish Trump and show him that his actions competely backfire. He might accomplish that we spend more on military though but for which price.

If Trump was so good for Putin why did Putin wait until Biden was president before invading? He could have invaded in 2016 and have four years against Ukraine without US support but he waits until first year of Bidens presidency? It doesn't add up.

There are different theories for that. In the end I don't think this is a very strong argument. And the argument in this thread is something else. It is a fact that European leaders think Trump is not trustworthy and that He betrays us to please Putin/to strengthen the US Russian relations.

I will try to answer the question though. First we cannot look into the mind of Putin. Angela Merkel said that Putin radicalized himself during the years of covid. She met him several times. But whether she is the right person to analyze Putin is a good question. Putin might have waited to destabilize Europe before invading Ukraine. Russia is waging a hybrid war against us with disinformation. The populist parties rise more and more. And He could use that time to strengthen his military in this time span which He actually did.

But it could also be that He actually considered Trump to that time point really as a mad man. He had many hawks in favor of the transatlantic partnership in his first administration. But this has completely changed. Trump's second term is way more extreme than his first time. And Putin cannot fathom his luck. Have you seen the Interviews? Putin really shines speaking of Trump. Claiming Trump repeating Russian talking points would not be in Putin's favor is utter bullshit and obviously not true. Calling Selensky a dictator would not be good for Russia? You have to explain that. Saying Ukraine started the war would not help Putin. In which World does this make sense?

I agree with most of it, but.
Cina basically supported Putin until now, they bought their gas and oil at a discount because Europe didn't buy it anymore. Plus: China is financing the North Korean regime which would otherwise collapse and NK sent ammunition and troops to Russia. I don't see how China could make a 180* move by sending peace troops to Ukraine.
It's true that Russia and China don't trust each other but still.

Europe could technically stop Russia if we were somewhat united. We have a GDP that is 10x theirs and a military complex that is technologically more advanced, less corrupt and better organized (on a country level). What's missing imo is the willingness to stop Russia on a political level. So getting help from China is no option and certainly not a solution.

I see how the EU could move towards China on an economic level, but not military. So China will most likely not help us and even if I don't see how the EU could accept it.

It depends on how far you go back in history. What about the 30-year war or Napoleon. There is never a complete restart in history.
