What if using video games and virtual reality as a treatment and not as entertainment only?

I have tried different treatments for chronic endogenous depression and anxiety and accidentally discovered that the only thing that personally helps me is video games and virtual reality. I have dreamed of dying all my life but i not able to finish it all, I am pathetic coward and loser and drugs only make things worse and cause suffering. Psychiatry cannot treat people like me but still wants me to pay money on this drugs all my life. Funny that for example barbiturates like N used to be sleeping pills (and they were advertised), but now this is highly restricted drugs.

I haven't felt anything for decades, since the early childhood (including pleasure from something or some kind of emotion), I feel already dead and slowly decaying but video games help me some kind to turn off my mind, not cure of course - but how to cheat, hack this system, emulate other worlds and situations, like escape into a different reality. I don't just play video games - I live in them, I play 13-15 hours a day, despite physical pain and discomfort. Yes it is not normal but for me incomparably better than drugs and psychiatric system which is a disaster. It is a pity that I have almost no money to buy all this electronics

Unfortunately, most "normal" people out there see video games as "escapism" aka "running away from reality". I also love to "escape" in virtual world as well. Some of my fondest memories happened in MMORPG. I was more interested in talking to my online friends compare to real people in my life.

The reason is, in the online world, I don't need to wear a fake mask. I can be who I am without needing to pretend as someone else. In real world, I need to act in certain way in order to be "accepted". Such life is driving me crazy.

I always dreamed of living in a digital world like in a movie "Tron"

What if the so-called "spiritual world" from different religions is a digital reality (ancient people simply did not know such words as "computers", "internet" and "virtual reality"), near-death experiences, NDE - as if taken from the description of virtual reality, surprisingly similar. Maybe this is the key and the new frontier

There is no way to escape reality.
You can absorb yourself into a fake reality and substitute it for friendship, family, intimacy and esteem.
But you will always need food, shelter, clothing and other essentials which you will need to get by working, unless you are already rich or want to live the NEET life which is suicide fuel on it's own.

Playing games will only make you attached to staying around. Attached to temporary novelty and fleeting joy. Not to mention totally isolate you from those physically around you. This is only my opinion however and I admit I love video games for this reason.

You gave me an interesting idea that maybe we could have VR therapy in the near future. That could be really helpful to those that are avoidant and don't like seeing therapists. State your problems and have a one to one with a VR therapist!

I'am NEET or hikky almost all my life already. I have no work, money or friends, almost do not go out, nobody does not care about me except my mother (which I bring only problems and disappointments) - I don't seem to exist in this reality, I feel already dead emotionally

Very much the case for me too, circumstantial other than a choice though. I did go to college and have qualifications but they never lead to anything.

What you said about games apply to me in regard of movies. Since I was a child I used movies to escape reality as often as I could. They even give me a reason to go on living , Like, "I don´t wanto to die before watching the Third Star Wars Trilogy or Avengers Endgame" (Although I must say that The Last Jedi was SO bad that I was in a bad spot for months, better get my hands on some N before The Rise of Skywalker for after watching, just in case)

I like movies too. In my early childhood there was no unlimited internet yet, my family was very poor and I had no money to buy a computer or console. I could watch movies all day. I remember how my friends and I played Star Wars (not on computer), remember how one guy was put on a cardboard box and he portrayed R2-D2. We play in Matrix movie, Terminator 2 movie, Lord Of The Kings movie. I remember as I slowly descended into a hole on a rope, reproducing a scene from the end of Terminator 2 when T-1000 descending into molten metal. This was a good time!

"The Last Jedi" was so bad that I would like to erase it from memory, damn it even intensified my depression.

I like this modern type of video games that have become like movies and even better. Games with the plot like Deus Ex or Mass Effect for example.
