I hope I'm not coming off as offensive, that's not my intentions. I was simply curious as to how that would work.

I know hell is a huge fear for believers that want to ctb. It's understandable, that's definitely enough to stop someone from getting their ticket.

it's a misconception. Hell is not guaranteed. God alone decides, and the church acknowledges mental illness as a factor.
I think we all have fear anyway, even if just the fear of the pain of the method.

Maybe there is no hell and its just a metaphor. Cuz there is certainly "HELL" on earth.

Just like there isn't 70 virgins for blowing yourself to bits with a group of innocent bystanders but some fool came up with that too.

yeah im muslim. yeah hellfire has been a huge fear of mine. and is currently a huge fear of mine. but i feel like it's the only way forward at this point. i don't think i deserve to be alive any longer.

also, in Islam, when a person is mentally ill (only God knows the exact degree of mental illness that would result in no accountability) and can't distinguish right from wrong etc, they will not be held accountable for their actions if they end up committing suicide. which i think is interesting. but if you're of sound mind, and you try to commit suicide, i think the result is pretty much being in hell.. repeatedly doing the same suicidal action.. killing yourself the same way.. over and over..

but ultimately only God knows. so yeah

What I wish is for a space to discuss religions openly, without judgment, for people to learn about different beliefs. It just seems so difficult, and results in endless animosity, and not compassion, although it seems like most religions have compassionate and beautiful aspects. I do not consider myself religious. I was raised Catholic, but walked at age 13. I read various books by Joseph Campbell, comparing religions, myths, folklore, etc, and wish people could also, while feeling they have a choice to decide what belief system is best for them.

This topic has been frequently debated here in several threads and it really depends on the person's beliefs.

I wish it could be a compassionate discussion, not a debate. I want to be open. Or to try.

If you can point me to threads where people are really trying to explain where their belief system comes from, and if they accept the default settings, please do.

I'm Christian. My beliefs are yes, you will ho to hell if you voluntarily terminate this life! Knowing this as my belief certainly didn't prevent me from several failed attempts! I always asked for forgiveness and figured God would understand before each attempt. My belief is still the same but I also believe you can't exit this life until your engraved date. Certainly one of my attempts should have worked🤔 I have put my attempts on hold and currently waiting for a natural death. I still have suicidal thoughts but I just prefer to wait and guaranteed a trip to heaven.

i created a thread under the politics/philosophy forum for religious/spiritual folks (or anyone curious/exploring) if you'd like to join :)

i'm spiritual, not religious. i believe that regardless of how someone dies, they are met with love and understanding. especially if someone finds that their suffering is too much and chooses to commit suicide, that is recognized and that soul is given the resources needed to heal rather than be punished. i also don't believe in the whole karmic debt or reincarnation into a worse life stuff that some people say (mainly bc it doesn't make sense, why would you be given a worse life if you couldn't survive the relatively "easier" one?). i am also in the minority in the spiritual scene but i think in some cases, suicide might even be part of that soul's journey. suicide or any other life choice is not judged, just examined on a case-by-case basis with understanding.

also, i used to be christian then turned atheist like 8 years ago bc the idea of eternal damnation for your "sins" just seemed so misaligned with who god is. god/source/whatever else you or anyone else want to call it is the epitome of love, forgiveness, compassion, etc; so why would they send anyone to hell??? it just never made sense to me. and the other thing is that suicide isn't specifically condemned (same with abortion), the bible just says "thou shall not murder", idk why that was extended to the self and unborn fetuses other than fitting their conservative agenda.

It really depends. In the particular brand of Christianity I grew up in yes, you commit suicide you burn in hell forever.
