Back in the 1960's when the Vietnam War was raging on, there are lots of people being drafted into service. Also, in certain countries, there are mandatory drafts and mandatory service for all able-bodied men, including the country that my family is from (Taiwan).

I would like to think that if I grew up during a time where the draft was around and enforced, then I would do so. Also, if I lived in a country with mandatory service, I might try to use that chance to ctb, depending on the situation at the time.

So the question is if there was ever a draft in the US or reactivation of mandatory military service due to a new war or demand for manpower, would you go into war to ctb?

During the recruitment period for War on Terror, I had signed up but got denied enlistment because I had a history of mental health issues. I would've been a liability and unfit for combat so they barred me from entering permanently. Gotta have able-minded soldiers to fight on the front so America can dumb them down with violence and they come back with mental issues.

Although I'm probably too old for that now, if I wasn't and it came about I would be a conscientious objector. Solely on the grounds that I do not believe in the military establishment, and do not have any desire to participate in the killing of anyone who has done me no harm personally.
People are continually brainwashed regarding the military, those who sign up are nothing but cannon fodder for politicians.
There is nothing glorious and noble about war, it's nothing but a money maker for those with their snouts in the trough.
The military doesn't exist to protect you and me, it's there to protect the establishment.
They will not think twice about turning their guns on you if you step out of line.
As a way to CTB? I'd rather take my chances with caffeine and booze.

I did not get drafted, I volunteered. I road an Abrams battle tank through the desert of Kuwait and Iraq. I was really dumb young lieutenant then. The draft served its purpose, I don't think it is necessary. It was really senseless also. The Iraqi army could not put a fight, it was a slaughter. Something I'm not really proud of and not very good memories at all.

I could probably understand why, since being in combat and dying in combat is based on many variables. Since suicide is more of an intentional, personal action of taking one's own life, dying in combat is more of being 'killed in action' rather than strictly suicide (unless one intentionally puts themselves in situations where death is imminent, like running into an IED straight on, intentionally getting shot by the enemy, etc.). Also, there is no guarantee of death while in combat, especially given the medical advancements in today's world; many soldiers who survive are often injured (not limited to PTSD or other psychological damages) and survive with a diminished quality of life.

I spent 4 years in the Army as a medic. Deployed to Iraq once, and was "honorably discharged." I would do it all again, but with my subsequent bouts of "psychological issues," I very much doubt I would be accepted back in (barring, perhaps some WW3 scenario).

If war breaks out that requires another draft then that means this already fucked up reality will only get worse.

I think in this case I'd either object and ctb on my own, or go into active duty and (somehow) get killed by the enemy by taking stupid risks. Or chances are that I'm too fucked up and get exempt from the draft, or if I live long enough, maybe I'll be too old to be drafted (I don't know it depends on how badly a country would need manpower).
