If a stranger got aggressive with you in public, how would you de-escalate the situation?

People in public seem unhinged nowadays. It's interesting that most people don't know how to control their emotions.

I would let them catch a glimpse of the mace in my hand and let them decide how much further they wanted to take things. This is assuming that they are unarmed and just being an asshole.

I would ask them to chill out, but if they insist, honestly I'd just run away; I don't have the build nor the courage to confront someone. I'm a big coward and a total people pleaser

Shut my mouth and keep my eyes down if they're just yelling until they go away. If they turn physical make as much noise as possible, run away, or curl into a ball and protect my face.

I think I wouldn't. I'm a really tall guy so people usually don't mess with me just because of that. But if they would, then bring it on, if you kill me you are doing me a favor. People who get aggressive towards others usually do it against more vulnerable ones. I hate violence but i hate bullies more

Unfliching dead eye contact goes a long way with people. There's a lot of communication that happens without words, without thoughts, the brain just registers shit without us even knowing it's happening. A calm, quiet voice shows control of a situation, as well. And body stance that isn't shrinking. Just unwaveringly owning the space you're occupying. Many people are very much like dogs, without knowing it.

i would hopefully not end up in that situation in the first place bc i avoid ppl as much as possible. whenever i hear anyone raise their voice, whether its directed at me or not, i start walking faster immediately and dont care where im going i just have to get away from the area.
if i was in that situation however, i would just walk away as fast as i could, but if they were physically stopping me i would just freese and close my eyes and wait until its over.

I would run away, that's what I've done other times... and if he wouldn't let me I would stay quiet waiting to see what he wants and do what he told me to do (that's how I got mugged several times as a teenager).

You misunderstood me. Aggressors should know to control their emotions. We all have bad days, so don't fight the customer who looked at you.
