Thread title is vague but I don't know how to word it. I have 5 cats and a dog, it would not sit right with me if I were to ctb without rehoming them. However, my roommate and family will see it as a HUGE red flag if I try to arrange homes for them "in case something happened to me" or whatever.

Any ideas on sneaky ways to find them homes without getting too much attention drawn to myself? This has proven to be my most difficult hurdle yet!

Can you count on your family and/or your roommate to step up and make those arrangements for your animals? If so, I'd leave a note asking them to make sure they had proper, loving homes. I can't imagine not honoring a last request, especially for the pets that you loved.

Also, I know if I were your roommate, I'd want to keep as many cats as I could.

It's honestly a toss up. He's told me before that if something happened to me he would get rid of them and move out of the house. I don't know how much I can believe this because he loves them and has no where else to go..so I'm left wondering, ya know?

It sounds like maybe that's his childish way of saying he doesn't want to see you go, or he'd be lost without you.

Either way, it's an idle threat. Again, could you trust your family to step up and make sure your final wishes were carried out?

Can you scout out some rescue organizations that you would feel comfortable leaving your pets with, and then leave that information in a note to your family? Maybe you could even secretly be in contact with them to get the ball rolling? I empathize with you. I just rehomed one pet last week, and it's not easy. I feel really good about her new home though! I think they'll take better care of her than I ever did.

This is a great idea! Tell them that you're moving and won't be able to take the animals with you. Find out what information they require, and make sure it's accessible to your family. Usually it's just a record of rabies vaccination, but if you don't have that, a county-run animal shelter will often do them very inexpensively; last year I paid $10 per cat.

I think I will have to mostly be the one to take action and make sure they have good homes. I know my sister would take my dog, at least. I've read over every response so far and am going to be considering all the advice.

This is the most logical idea, I will just have to wait until I can afford to vaccinate them
