What's the ideal rope for hanging?

Anyone?

Would like a rope that is "comfortable", don't want a rope that feels irritable on the skin.

If you type in "paracord" in amazon, the first result is the rope I bought. It's the 750lb parachute/paracord. Is this a good rope?

If you're looking for partial/full suspension, almost any type of rope will work, but the less stretchy the better. Synthetic fibers like nylon, polyester etc stay put so you dont have a bungee jumping moment when you do it. I understand you're looking for comfort, and things like polyester and nylon are less scratchy than things like manila, but comfort doesn't always lend itself to durability.

It depends if it should be partial and full suspension and also on your body weight and how tall you are

Some have mentioned wrapping a tea-towel or similar on the neck to reduce rubbing. Best if luck

To prevent irritation on skin you could use a cloth of some sort that wont affect the arteries. A rope maybe 14mm you be suitable as the last thing you want is a breakage. But most ropes say the max weight it will hold.

As per personal experience I can tell you that paracord is not comfortable, it's certainly strong enough but it's way too thin and it will bruise and cut your skin.

I would go with something atleast 15 mm or more preferably nylon rope.

I'm just going to use a couple of neckties attached to a pull-up bar (with the door closed as I live with housemates). I'm only a 5'2" woman so I don't weigh a huge amount and it looks like this should be quite secure and more comfortable than using a rope.

Good luck with your neckties it could work but a rope is safer

You're gonna be more irritated by the rope compressing your neck than the consistency. Put a t shirt on your collar like a polyester or under armor

Remember that cord doesn't equal rope.

Actually there are numerous cases in which neckties have been used successfully, usually made from silk or polyester they're quite sturdy.

That's true. But fixing a couple of neckties together is the risk

I'm not fixing them together. I'm using two in case one fails. I've tested my set-up and even one necktie seems sufficient so two is just insurance.

For suspension I'd use 15-20mm diameter rope. Nylon or polypropylene ropes are a little smoother and softer than a lot of choices so they may make make for a more comfortable suspension.

For a small and thin lady a 10mm Nylonrope is enough

Climbing ropes are safe because they are made for not break with heavy weight. Also not elastic.

Considering you can partial hang from a door handle, I'm not really sure when so many people seem to go OTT when it comes to preparing their kit. A necktie would suffice, as would those satin ribbon loop restraints you can get in a sex shop. You're not rigging a boat!

I have a nautical rope woven in polyester, it is 8mm in diameter and has a breaking load of 400kg.
I think it is enough for a full suspension, considering I'm 1.66m and I weigh 50kg.

You hear of celebrities like robin Williams or Kate spade hanging with everyday items like scarfs/belts and it's stupid but I'm jealous that they've managed to ctb successfully with those items

there are cases of people who died instantly by sliding on the wet floor and banging the head.
death requires luck.

Won't such a high diameter make the noose less reliable? Won't the noose open? And specifically what can be done to make the noose stay intact?
