Nearly every week, someone asks how to OD on OTC meds.
My idea is to add a megathread to the list of method megathreads in the Resources Compilation. The OTC OD Megathread would explain in the OP why OTC ODs don't work, written by someone far more knowledgeable than I, maybe researched using the site search. I don't care enough about the subject to put forth that kind of effort, but maybe someone else does. The OP could address diphenhydramine and Tylenol, and explain why such medicines are more likely to eff someone up than end their lives. Ongoing discussions could continue on the megathread, and people could be directed to the megathread instead of having the same explanations and conversations over and over.
Conversely, if there is any possibility that OTC ODs can be a reliable method, the megathread would be a good repository for linking studies and other resources, rather than having scattered all over the forum what little helpful information may actually have been shared if there is any chance it could be effective. The way things are right now, a bunch of people saying, "No, it doesn't work" is not always evidence-based (excluding anecdotal evidence of course), it's often more of a bandwagon.
Of course, some people may like explaining and having the conversations about why OTC ODs don't work, regardless of repetitiveness.. It may totally be their kind of interaction, or give them a sense of feeling useful and helpful, so a megathread may solve one issue but take away some people's personal senses of purpose and enjoyment on the forum.
