I wonder how success rates actually look like when you don't count impulse/poorly planned attempts

Objectively I can't find any actual statistics, but I would assume that a well planned method would be far better than one that is hastily thrown together.

Conversely, how many people attempt suicide and never say anything about it? You only get counted in the statistics if you're hospitalized for your attempt or self-report it for a research group AFAIK. I know I've attempted but I have never been counted as a statistic. How many others? A lot I bet.

Equally, proper planning is hard without access to resources/research. I imagine there would be folk who are set on their decision/not impulsive but who have been unable to find sufficient accurate information leading to injury/illness. And/or, as mentioned above, a significant amount of masking and not disclosing attempts if no medical intervention is required afterwards due to stigma etc

Probably higher since people here have access to more information that gives them a higher chance to succeed whereas people who don't know about this site don't have a lot of information to go by on since most people will refuse to give them information as they want to be pro life

I imagine, if they excluded OTC drug overdoses, the amount of successful attempts would be higher. I imagine a lot of OTC drug overdoses fail. I imagine that may well be one of the most commonly tried methods too, seeing as people have them to hand. They've also likely been mislead by TV programmes and films that make it appear so easy.

It makes sense to me that an impulsive attempt would be more likely to fail. Maybe the person chose a time where it would be much more likely they would be interrupted. Certain methods like SN also seem to work better when protocols are followed. Some methods aren't very forgiving towards impulsive attempts.

That said, maybe some methods are so frightening, that thet require impulsivity to get over SI.

I find the figures weird though. Isn't it something like: 24-5 failed attempts for every successful one? Plus, the even weirder statistic that only 10-15% of people who previously failed an attempt will actually die by suicide. I really don't believe that one. I imagine someone with problems so severe that they attempt to take their life would likely still struggle in life and still contemplate if not try again.

I found plenty of info outaide of this website and with little planning i was able to die but i did it completely without thinking of draw backs , I now have brain damage . This site helps with planning things so you don't leave yourself permanent damaged But in all honesty People have been killing themselves for thousands upon thousands of years im sure people can figure out how to die without this website.

Even in a "well planned" attempt there a many variables to consider & its what we DONT consider that may be our downfall.
ODs are notoriously undependable no matter what the drug.
