Does anyone get tried of hearing this or even feel anything when this is said?

Like i dont mind them on goodbye threads or as sign off's to bigger messages but like i'll write this long ass vent post either expressing my feelings or even asking for advice or help with something and then you'll get people who will literally say

"Sorry your dealing with that, hope you get better soon" because thats what it boils down to if you really think about it,maybe its supposed to be a nice gesture but i just find it more annoying than anything

Like if you wanna show someone support and have nothing to really say or add just leave a reaction and call it a day ya'know?

Idk am i wrong here? Just my personal perspective i guess

Ouch. i have a feeling youre talking about me...cause i believe i left a comment like that on one of your threads the other day. Im sorry if my comment irritated you. That wasnt my intention at all, i wished to help but your right i didnt know what to say, so I guess i shouldve said nothing at all.

As someone who's made a lot of long vent posts throughout my life I totally get that sometimes this really is about the only thing people can think to respond with when faced with such overwhelming walls of text. It doesn't mean what you posted was bad or that its length is the problem. It just means that there genuinely is no better response they had at the time. I guess they could have just reacted or said nothing at all but the nuances of human conversation sometimes cast such actions into doubt making people feel the need to say SOMETHING, ANYTHING, even if it's something as generic as this.

I thought it was directed at me because I just said it on a goodbye status. Guess it shows how often we say it, but I personally like "I hope you find peace" because it's ambiguous as to whether it's due to ctb or figuring this life out.

I really did not know what to say to help yoy feel better regarding your situation, but i did genuinely want to help you. But i see in some cases, there is nothing that i can say because I havent been in that person shoes and im not a therapist. I never wanted to come off as if i was brushing off your feelings..

I admit that sometimes I comment on this but I do it with the intention of making the person feel a little better. It may not do any good but I would like to be told that when I am feeling bad. It also depends on whether the person reading that message wants to read that or not, you don't know if those words mean anything to that person.

It's part of the site's fabric at this point. Has been for years, and it's the go to platitude or phrase because there's not much a stranger can say or do in most cases, especially in response to a Goodbye thread or a shitty situation. It annoys me too, if for its frequency and emptiness, but I also understand why people would default to it, and I think oftentimes it is appreciated. It's something neutral everyone can say to mean "I see you/I read this/I'm empathizing." At least that's what I see it as, a shorthand more than anything. And for a lot of people, that's enough, a mile extra effort than just a react (though in my opinion they'd suffice for this.)

I typically don't speak on vent threads unless I feel I can add something, or I feel a personal relation/empathy. Canned responses are useless to me—so anyway, suffice to say, I get where you're coming from and you're definitely not the only one to take issue with it.

I mean idm in the context of a text like if you message someone and they respond to try and comfort you i was more referring to when i post a thread and someone leaves that i guess its a matter of if you have little to add say nothing

Based on the responses i'm getting so far though (and even on self reflection) I probably was being abit of an ass when writing this so

Well thats the thing i don't mind it on a goodbye thread as i mentioned in the post because they belong there your wishing someone a final goodbye afterall

I just mean in general vent threads when people say it or when someone asks for advice and they add nothing basically

In some contexts i dont mind it,its just others when i find it abit hollow again coming from certain people but yea

I think even in the context of a public thread, that might still be the only thing some people can think to say.

Another thing to consider is that many users in the past who have tried to be more elaborate in goodbye threads and even in regular venting threads had their posts screenshotted and taken out of context by opponents of this website and accused of encouraging suicide. Saying something like "I wish you peace" is popular because it can be seen as expressing well wishes without encouraging suicide which is against the rules anyway. Even people who have said something like "Good luck!" have had to deal with bereaved loved ones of CTB'd members bullying and harassing them so it's understandable that no one would want to bring that upon themselves.

Again idm them in goodbye threads i feel thats were they belong i just mean in a general setting

As for the seeing and empathsing i feel a reaction like a thumbs up or a hug can accomplish the same task i mean i admit i prefer commits to reactions but I'd probably prefer a reaction to a comment of little to no substance again maybe i'm being assy rn idk

But thats kinda what i was getting at though like if you have nothing to say just leave a react and call it a day, again maybe i'm being an asshole here I'm certainly not trying to be its just my prospective but maybe i'm being alittle nilistic

And again i keep trying to say this idm "i wish you well" on a goodbye thread i just mean on general vents or inquiries

I understand, I think people still say it on regular vent threads for that reason too. Like I also said earlier some people don't feel like reacting is enough even when they really have nothing better to say. It's just a personal preference I guess. It's perfectly understandable to prefer people only react than leave a comment. It's just that not everyone sees it that way.

I admit it sounds a bit funny.
Kind of like programmed AI.

But I don't know if there's anything wrong with it.
Sometimes it's hard to respond to a comment in a meaningful way, so people just write what you mentioned.

Currently, I only write sometimes "good luck" and maybe some additional text.

Whether it is necessary or unnecessary is a completely individual matter.
Some people who create goodbye threads may feel better when someone writes any comment in such a thread.
Other people may not care at all.
Normal.

I feel the same. If I think I don't have anything worthwhile to say then I stick to the emoji reactions. But not everyone feels the same and we don't know what the thread poster wants unless stated. If some people want to receive expressive emotional support themselves, or some form of empathy, then it's likely they'll return such kindness to others. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. In the end, even if I get annoyed with something, I should realize that their comment is likely written with their best intentions.

Same. This is largely why I use it. I like its constrast to the "support" you'd get in most places which often just boils down to "I hope you live".

It's annoying, but I'd prefer hearing it a million times over to a single "it gets better, just hang in there".

I feel like people say that alot to me too…but some days i feel like hearing that makes me feel worse

I know its a double caveat of "peace" as in ceasing of existence or finding enjoyment or pleasure into it but on days or moments rather when i feel less suicidal or miserable i almost feel willed to die but I'm constantly tore between everything anyways so that's probably a personal preference

I personally like that phrase because the "peace" also takes into account of finding peace via suicide as well. Whenever normies say platitudes like "I hope you get better soon", it's different than the phrase that gets used here because, whenever normies say a platitude, they say it without taking suicide into account and implying that one can only get better through living. However, by saying "I hope you find peace soon", that also includes suicide which I do believe is a valid way of finding peace for few people.

Also, what annoys me about how normies say their platitudes is that it's obvious they don't actually mean it. At the same time, they act like their words are the one factor that will significantly impact others. On the other hand, I think people here are more genuine with their words when they wish peace towards somebody else and, at the same time, people here do acknowledge that it's just a phrase which is most likely unable to help others. People here don't say it with the intentions and hopes of making somebody not feel suicidal. Taking all of this into account, I don't mind that people here say that phrase a lot

But couldn't the same be say about some users here though in regards to it being empty words

Again its rare i feel this is the case but again sometimes i just feel does the individual really care again maybe this was abit of a shit take

Nothing anyone says will ever help me and it will never make things better for me but someone trying to respond in the best way they can, in the midst of their own suffering which isnt always easy, I appreciate it. That's my take anyway.
