well, i think it helps to try to differentiate what you actually want and what you feel a desire to do (which isn't you unless you decide it is). if you don't actually want to kill anyone, try accepting the feeling it's ok to feel this but i won't act on it. that it's a reaction to anger and trauma (like it is for me)

How do you stop before it's too late?

You have two options:

1. Making yourself incapable of doing anything

2. Checking yourself into a mental health center.

Your best bet is without question option 2, It's the most realistic answer if you want the best chance of not doing anything. Checking yourself in would give you access professionals and housing for a time, and they would be obligated to find a way to help you out, such as finding the right kind of medication and coping mechanism's for you.

you should also make travel and access to weapons incredibly inconvenient for yourself.

I came back from a break and a wash... and now I'm getting the bigger picture.
In my chat, ppl have sometimes started with similar not-so-nice messages, and while others tend to react to it, I try and calmly ask why, etc.

I did have a limit when the yew user decided to post bestiality (after a rant where I somehow managed to stay calm), I called that user lazy, knowing full well that they admitted to "punishing themselves" because of laziness.

Eventually (1 day later or so) they said they obtained the neighbours pistol, said bye, and that they won't be back (tho returned a few days later being moderately rude but not completely vindictive).
