So, i got diagnosed with depression 3 years ago, y met a bf, he helped a lot, he broke up with me a month ago now i'm alone, and depressed and buying everything related to SN method for suicide. Thing is, i talked to my shrink yesterday and she told me to try with a psychiatrist... never been to one, and idk, i guess i'm scared of what to expect... Could it really help me or should i go hooded by the idea it might not work and still be depressed?
Wanna point oout, i hope this thread makes sense, i'm high af right now, trying to deal with stuff. So, plz, if there's anyone out there right now, i could at least use the company i guess...

Psychiatrist can give you medication. It's just a matter of how your body reacts to the medication given by the psychiatrist.
Some people feel that medication helps, some feel it doesn't.
I guess it's worth it to try if you've never been to one, to see if medication helps you

Guess, i'm scared of going for it, never tried it, and i don't want to have any type of hopes that might not be realistic i guess

Give it a try.
Better to know that not try and always wonder about it.
Best wishes.

How about you try and go see one but still dont have any expectation?
Just don't get your hopes up
if it works for you, then it would be good. If it doesn't, no problem

It can be scary indeed. I remember my first time going to a psychiatrist not knowing what to expect, but it's not that bad.
They are just going to ask about symptoms and that's it for me. They give medication if needed.
Best of luck to you!

Going into these things without expectation is the best approach. A psychiatrist is just a therapist with the ability to prescribe medication or other treatments.

Remember that the intensity of the feelings you're experiencing now in relation to your breakup will lessen to a dull in time. So, think about that before you make any big decisions. The best decisions in life are always made with a level-head, y'know? I can relate. I'm 2 months after my divorce and moving country. It's a struggle, but I know that it will pass eventually. I try to be kind to myself. My advice is the same for you. It's okay to feel sad and alone, similarly it's okay to try out a new therapist and medication. The choice is up to you. It's always good to exhaust options, as a golden rule of life.

My advice if your deciding between SN and seeing a psychiatrist to try a pharmaceutical for your depression, go with the psychiatrist!

Personally, I think it's tragic for anyone with mental illness not to have tried all feasible treatments prior to CTB. As an aside, I practice what I preach for my own mental health issues and have done so for years. But, I have significant physical and mental health issues and am unsure my next step.

Your psychiatrist might help you resolve your depression issues. What do you have to lose?

Read as much as you can to learn how best to battle your depression.

Thank you for your kind advice! I can't wait for today to finish, i'm anxious about the psychiatrist thing. I'll try to be kind to myself as you say even tho it's getting hard lately.

Thank you for your kind advice! I'll give it another try, i feel like this is the last one tho, I'm not sure what's beyond psychiatric help if it doesn't work tbh. So, i get your feeling a bit, i'm scared it won't work and i'll never get that "happily ever after" i guess...

Knowledge is power. Read as much as you can and try as all the feasible ideas that you come across. Make lists of all the ideas you see.

The best aspect of the internet to me is the ability to read all the different ideas for healthcare. One can read thousands and thousands of different people's opinions based on what they've tried and based on what they've heard from their experts. Additionally, one has easy access to well designed studies through pubmed, etc.

I do this for myself with all my health issues. I've helped myself through my own research and trial and error more than my extensive list of specialists have been able to help for my various conditions.

I recommend that you approach your engaging a psychiatrist as merely the starting point with respect to your battle with depression. I would look at medication as a single tool in your tool chest. It's up to you to acquire as many tools as possible for your tool chest, if you want the best outcome obtainable.

Good luck!

As others have said, psychiatrists will prescribe medication and adjust them as needed. They can also refer you to other services such as therapy, set up CBT or DBT. I found having one helped, but you have to be willing to work with them, be honest with how you feel.
