I made the mistake of taking Sertraline (a fu#k SSRI)

Let me explain, I had it stored, and in an impulsive moment I decided to take it, I took it for about 6 days, a 50mg dose a day, and on the seventh day I took 100mg. the thing, my libido completely decreased and I decided to stop. And I thought everything would go back to normal, but searching, I discovered a condition called PSSD, which is basically sexual dysfunction after using an AD, and that can affect someone even after a few days of exposure to an SSRI, and it can last months, years or even be permanent. I'm in a panic, I want my sexual function to return to normal, it's been 3 days since I was out of sertraline
Psychiatrists should warn about this shit called PSSD. I'm more suicidal now. Has anyone had PSSD in the past and recovered completely?

I refuse to take any medication RXed to me anymore. I was on Paxil and Clonopin for a long time (year's)... numbed me out in a lot of different ways. I self-reduced and got off of it completely thinking the libido effects would disappear but when a few weeks went by and still no return... I was annoyed. I can truly say I recovered completely over the past 4 years.

Hope that helps some, hugs! Sorry you're experiencing this

A guy tells about same pathology than you, ill, problem or whatever. If it is helpful,
Looks like a serious issue.
Sorry and wish you all the best.

Yeah, I would say calm down too. I was put on duloxetine for 2 weeks and my dick almost stopped working during that time. I went back to normal the following week.

Try to stick to one or the other, zolpidem is a pseudo-benzo (chemically not a benzo but acts on the same receptors in the brain).

Benzos or Zolpidem probably won't help anything either

Yes but benzos are really hard to get off of, advising someone to just stop taking benzos is extremely reckless. Benzo withdrawal CAN kill you, and it'll do so in a very painful manner.

I was prescribed Sertraline back in May by a neurologist.
After reading and doing a bit of research and asking for feedback from other people here on this forum, i decided to never take it.
It's always this dilema with medications: yeah it can help you in some ways but it can also cause some incovenient side effects.
I hate trade offs so i usually just avoid taking meds.

Just relax and give it some months. Freaking about it won't help although I know it's hard.

SSRI's are used to chemically castrate sex offenders. It should be illegal to prescribe them to mentally vulnerable people. Especially young people.

+1 Benzo withdrawal is absolutely brutal. I'm doing a fairly slow taper and it's no fun.

I know it's hard.
No, it's not hard, that's the problem!

Actually, I've been taking Sertraline, aka Zoloft, 200mg per day for almost 30 years, and my libedo is fine.
My problem with it is it no longer reduces my depression episodes.
But if I try to taper off, even slightly, I get severe "jump out of my skin" anxiety attacks.

if you can answer, are you a male or a female? anyway, from what I read, PSSD affects both.

ok, I'm trying to relax, I can only wait now.

"SSRI's are used to chemically castrate sex offenders." man, that scared me, I won't even research this. but it seems few are immune to it, few know about PSSD in advance. It seems that even Trump has already taken SSRI's, but he's not exactly known for having a great intelligence, apparently.

Hi, you should be fine. Im on Sertraline 150mg at the moment, been so for the past few months and allthough it definitely lowers your libido. After a few weeks sexual function / libido normally returns. Ive also heard that masturbating and/or sex more than once a week will help regain your lost libdo.

But since you are not taking the drug anymore. If you continue to not take it then yes it should take atleast a couple of weeks to a month for you to get the drug out your system. Best of luck!

Maybe throwing that in there was not a good idea.

I think with the short duration you took the pills it's unlikely you have PSSD. I'm not going to say it's impossible, but I think it's unlikely.

It's not impossible. One guy got it after 1 pill and it's lasted years. Another took just 3 pills and still has it too. It's very possible if he's genetically prone to it.

But then I took 200mg/day for almost 30 years with no problem.
So everybody is different. Just give it time.

Yeah. It's difficult to say. It's also hard to assess the psychological factor. This is not to excuse or dismiss antidepressants. Getting PSSD from 1 or 3 pills just sounds very insane, but I'm not dismissing it. SSRI's are seriously potent medications, but not in the good way. Just like taking a street drug once can cause perm damages, I don't believe that SSRI's are any different.

Woman here, lost my libido several years ago, I was taking Prozac. Doctor tried to get it back by adding Wellbutrin, didn't work. Tried weaning off all meds, it never returned. Since then, I'm even more depressed and anxious because of the PSSD, and I've cycled on and off three other ADs to cope ☹️
