I don't understand how people can accept that and be happy with it either, hell I barely understand how people are happy growing old and frail and working well into their 60s or even 70s.

I guess it comes down to how good your mental health is and what kind of support system you have. I mean, if I was brilliant mentally and had a loving family, plenty of close friends and a SO who was crazy about me I'd probably be happy with growing old even if I was horribly sick.

And I often look at old people, gasping their last, desperately clinging to life and think why
Why WHY?

I do not understand this world. And I do not want to be old. (Older!)

It's not pointless, I think a lot of us feel the way you do, and any outpouring of emotion is just fine. You are among friends here, and you're always welcome to message me if you just need to talk.

But yes, I've had that same thought regarding growing older. If these years constitute "my prime" you can fucking keep the twilight years, lol.

I think it's relative. Being old doesn't mean losing your survival instinct all of a sudden. There are old people who are physically and emotionally stronger than me right now, even ill old people. And I'd guess that if you weren't deprived of vital opportunities and you had the willingness to accomplish certain things in life, and you had good mental health, even if you are sick you'd prefer to live. It's relative as I said. But yeah, me myself, I hope I ctb before my birthday. Can't bear the pain any longer. I feel old as a dinosaur btw. Lol.

And as people said in previous posts: don't be sorry.

I've worked in a couple of care homes as a cook and I have heard residents say "I want to die" even heard one residents son say "if my mother knew she'd end up like this she would have put a gun in her mouth"
The older generation tend to be more religious also so that probably keeps them going to some extent.
I think if many were given the choice then they would choose to go.

Just six months ago, this topic was not even on my radar. For all I knew I was healthy, vibrant, strong and had a great community of family and friends, then a diagnosis punches you in the face.
It does not matter the reason. Suffering is suffering. People should be allowed to end their lives as they see fit to spare themselves pain and anguish and those around them.
