It´s so empty they have nothing to hold up against life is not a fairytale where everybody gets a happy ending if it was this person was right but life is not like that everything is definitely not going to be okay and haven´t been going okay for over a decade so assholes like this should shut their mouths because even if the words would reach a gullible person who then didn´t ctb when they had the chance it most likely will result in years or decades of more pain and suffering.

I agree. Why would life just magically work out and get better? It literally just gets worse from disease, old age, etc and then the grand finale, we die!

I have suffered from deceases since my teen years and remember the time before when I was healthy as a child and pre teen and it was magical to feel that way but the magic show has turned dark I literally just came from the skin doctor yesterday and got another prescription so up to 4 ointments and that is just for my psoriasis (which is just one of a long list of problems). Yeah life doesn´t work itself out magically it´s a dark dark magic show with the prestige being death but as this point that would just be a relief.

Comments like this are pointless and bare no truth to them whatsoever.
I remember telling someone that I couldn't go to an appointment because I was experiencing a bout of chronic depression.
They said in return " Oh well, it could be a hundred times worse , you could have cancer so just cheer up and be grateful ".
People who believe these types of comments are living in a bubble of delusion and have obviously never experienced things like mental illness or existential crisis etc.

Well- yeah- life does start to make sense as you get older but not in a good way! You start to see all the widespread corruption everywhere. The reasons we are being kept alive likely aren't really for our own benefit but so that we can become wage slaves to make rich people richer. Exactly what glittering future does this person think they have ahead of them? It's not to say it's impossible of course- but it certainly isn't inevitable... It won't just happen for them.

Why is that young person already so unhappy that they are considering suicide? Is it something that will follow them throughout their life? Was it some kind of traumatic event? If these people really want to help- I wish they would go a little deeper... Ask that person why they feel as they do. Ask them what they think stands in their way of leading the life they want to live. Establish whether they even have hope or motivation left. I guess they don't want to ask those questions though- because they may not know how to deal with the answers. It's easier to just shut them down with platitudes. They've done their bit in their eyes- reassured that person that everything will be just fine in the long run. Now, they can just leave them to work it out on their own with some random notion that things will now just magically fall into place... yeah right.

Young adults may not like hearing that advice...because it's a load of crap, very easy to regurgitate from someone who doesn't want to understand. Life doesn't often make sense and as for working itself out eventually...yeah right. Meaningless mambo jambo.

The message that you quoted sounds like a logical fallacy to me but I'm not sure which one it is. I'd be surprised if what they said isn't a logical fallacy

Anyways, in my case, life worked out.. to be miserable, depressing and painful

That's some terrible message, although we get their intention. On the other hand, I've been in their place talking to friends who wanted to CTB and it is actually hard to know what to say, as I was talking to someone who was so emocionally fragile.
My therapist suggested that I said what I felt about that in those situations, like "I really like you and I don't want to die". Do you think it's better?

Are they even being serious with that. I find it hard to take that kind of delusional toxic positivity seriously, I bet if would be different if something happened to the person writing that comment to make existing much more unbearable for them in the future.
To have the ability to exist in this hellish reality where there is no limit as to how much one can suffer really is something so horrible.

All that existing is, is just undesirable and meaningless suffering that leads to nothing but decay and death anyway, I'd prefer to die to escape from all future unnecessary suffering in an existence that there was never a need for in the first place.

I feel like people who would say this are people who either never actually tried this advice or heard it and went with it in a time and place where opportunities, situations, and circumstances seemingly work in their favor and made it look like it actually worked for them without them actually realizing this was not the case. It's like somehow we just don't get it yet like life is magically building around us so that it will someday work itself out in some indeterminate future date. smh

It's always the same regurgitated $#!+ about how things will get better. These people don't understand what is going on in our heads. Hell I don't even understand what's going on in there a lot of the time. They're just hollow words like "thoughts and prayers" after any crisis or disaster.

Maybe it helps them sleep better at night when they say that stuff. Like "I was such a good person to say that and super supportive, now I can say the n-word guilt free" kind of mindset. These are also the people who will ghost you for being a downer all the time. I've gotten sick of hearing how I need to "pull myself out of this funk" when all I wanted was a shoulder to cry on or a tight hug.

While I don't think that message is helpful to everyone, and I'd never actually say it to anyone, it is true for some people. I know a few people who were lost and struggling in their 20's and then things got better as they got older. I think people on this board are biased because things didn't work out for us.

I agree, it is empty. They can't see the future. Making absolute blanket statements about something they can't guarantee, is a lie. So disingenuous. I don't understand how they can possibly believe it, let alone expect others to believe it.

I suppose though, it is a possibility. I can't see the future either. But, I also have a chance to win the lottery. And even if it was OK; how long? When does the other boot come down?

Good comparison it is like saying you will win the lottery just keep in there. Of course the pro-lifers wouldnt see it like that since they think winning the lottery is impossible and going from suffering for years or decades to being happy is possible still sounds stupid just spelling it out; you can literally hear the contradiction in that statement.
Whenever I hear it, my eyes roll all the way to the back of my brain.
For me it´s hardly even just an expression anymore I think last time I heard this I literally did that in front of the person or let out a sigh or an "ugh"

Yeah, I hate how some people say "life will get better" as if it's some universal truth for everyone, everywhere when there's just no way that they can possibly fully understand what someone's going through and the circumstances that led up to them wanting to die.

Sometimes I wish these people were encountered by an older adult who's bitter that they listened to "it gets better". An older adult who knew it was better for them to leave early, but doubted their judgement, and unnecessarily suffered.

it's probably the most annoying bs I've ever heard of. Working out eventually implies it'll all come together like a puzzle, it's just more pathetic and meaningless drivel.

Life does have ups and downs, and for inexplicable reasons it may get better, but it also may get worse. But I also find those kinds of comments condescending and disingenuous. Ultimately, and without fail, as we age it only gets worse. Sometimes it's manageable, but for others it takes its toll earlier. And whether it's physical or mental or a combination of both, people should respect the suffering that comes with living.
