There is a new interesting documentation on arte. Arte is a TV station that is funded by Germany and France. Here is the German version there is probably also a French version. I won't watch the documentation fully. The people there are terminally ill. And they get help from a doctor from Belgium. In the description they say it is a story about humanism. Yeah talking about assisted suicide for mentally ill was probably a too heated topic for them. I recognize this when I read German media. Despite the fact our highest court made a decision for very liberal assisted suicide laws but the media still demonizes it. I read one Swiss newspaper which criticized them for it. The media makes me so angry when they talk about this topic. It triggeres me a lot. From the politicians who are responsible for creating the new laws I have heard false prejudices about suicide like in winter the suicide rates were the highest. The journalist who makes the worst anti assisted-suicide propaganda and a very powerful politician told this wrong stereotype during an interview. These idiots don't know anything. Sorry I am kind of off-topic.
A mother in in the documentation says that from the title. I had to change it a little bit in order to make more sense for you. You can find at 49-50 minute. But it is on German. Her daughter was terminally ill and pretty young.
"When you love your children then it is normal. I gave birth to her and I helped to end her life. This feels natural and right to me. I don't think it is a proof of love if you oppose that decision. It strengthens you if you confront yourself with it. And for her (daughter) it was important to know that her loved ones accepted her decision."
She has a conversation with the doctor who gave assisted suicide. And tells about her feelings.
Yeah I would love to have parents like that. But mine are complete idiots who abused me and caused my agony in the first place. They will never accept my decision. My best friends would support me. 2 of 3. This mom sounds extremely strong and empathetic. She must have been a wonderful mother. It is really difficult to accept the decision of ones child concerning suicide. When the act happens hidden and not this official way it is probably also worse for the parents. But for me this is just another reason for legalizing assisted suicide. In the video they also said the daughter had the strong wish to meet this doctor. Yeah if I commit suicide I would also love to do it the official way. It would comfort me. Not having to feel like a criminal when I do it. For mentally ill people it is probably also much harder to get this acceptance.
I mean my dad threatens me to stop giving me money if I contact an assisted suicide organization. My parents are so fucking stupid. They could never show this humbleness when someone is extremely in pain. Things they cannot even imagine. My family and the vast majority of people in our society are just ignorant. Until it hits themselves. I was always in favor of assisted suicide as a human right. Even before my own suicidality started.
This mother is pretty impressing. I don't think most parents could handle the situation with such a strength. Her daughter was probably pretty thankful to have loved ones who were this compassionate.
