but why? and must i?

so i was reading this thread. commented on the thread. and when i was done i clicked away and thought nothing of it. well not quite nothing. it triggered a chain of thoughts that made me wonder......is it partially my personality disorders fault that i feel like im fake? well, that makes sense. i dont know who i am. im a little bit of everything. but no one specific. why cant i be everything? why must i fit into a group? why must i conform to society and do things theyre way? why cant i smoke a joint and play a video game? why cant i also be a mechanic and carpenter? go fishing and paint a sunset? why must everything fall into one category? you either are or you arent. well, you know what, im a little bit of everything and i like a whole lot of different things and if you dont like it then that sounds like your problem because im not changing my interests for anyone. if you dont like me for me, then you dont like me and if you dont like me then i dont need you.

It sounds like you put your finger on a big problem in society today, categorization. Even in High School, there are pressures brought to bear that attempt to mold people into categories that might not be a good fit.

Sadly, many health care "professionals" also have difficulty seeing beyond a category.

I think it is pretty healthy for you to hold on to your authentic personality rather than accept what other define for your life.

yeah :) im actually pretty big on being yourself. an it harm none do what ye will. its the wiccan rede. as long as no one gets hurt do whatever you want. the way i see it is if someone doesnt like me because im being myself then i dont need them in my life, plus they should probably look in the mirror and question their own life rather then my free spirited lifestyle. as long as responsibilities are being taken care of and no ones getting hurt, whats the problem? the thing is though is someone might look at it and think "well i can do what ever i want" but thats not the case. if you do heavy drugs, drink excessively, then youre hurting yourself and therefore you shouldnt do it. sometimes what we do have consequences we dont always think about but i feel the wiccan rede makes you stop and think "if i do this how will others feel or react?" if its going to physically or emotionally hurt someone then you probably shouldnt do. but much like everything theres exceptions to every rule. if youre in an abusive relationship and they are telling you they would die without you or something like that, then you have to look out for whats best for you.

everyones unique, beautiful/handsome, these are thing i feel that people should embrace. you should be happy that there is only one you. thats a super power all in its own because no one can be you. not really.

Well, no one is really saying you can't be a weed-smoking carpenter or whatever. There's weirder people out there. I think the issue is just social approval and stuff. Fellow stoner carpenters will vibe with your lifestyle more than a group of PTA Karens would. It's only natural. Everyone has different interests and priorities that vary with culture, religion, class, etc. And certain interests will attract certain types of people.

I think in general, no one with sense is actually going around saying "hey you cant smoke weed AND be a mechanic AND paint sunsets while fishing, or youre a weirdo!" In my experience at least, people usually find it pretty interesting if you have a range of interests, so long as you act normal and don't have any super weird hobbies.
