My childhood dog that has been with my ever since I was 6 years old was just put down by my parents. He was REALLY old for a dog his size. Like, several years over the estimated maximum age.
My mom called me at 4:50pm (but my phone didn't ring; maybe she only let it ring once or twice?)
Texted me at 4:53pm that they're taking the pup to the vet
No further information
And then when I called back at 5:03pm they were already otw (meaning, they had to have been otw already like 5mins or less after texting me bc they have to load the dog into the car etc.)
When I asked on the phone, specifically if they wanted to put him down or take him back home or what the plan was, my dad said they planned to take him home after taking him to the vet. My mom later said they decided to put him down and drove after he was not able to get up today.
I was 5mins away at my partners the whole time. They told me they decided throughout the day that they would put him down. Why couldn't they tell me he was struggling? I walked him last night, as I do everyday. I would've been there anyways in like an hour because that's the time for their evening walk. I'm sure they did this on purpose but why?
It was important for me to be there when he passed away or when we put him down and I repeatedly told them about that since I grew up with him and everything.
And I wanted to say goodbye properly and be there for him.
I told both of my parents how I felt about death in general and how important it is for me to be there when our dog passes, specifically, because he was getting really old and I wanted to communicate that clearly.
