Venting I did something horrible

I can't breathe rn. I feel so suffocated embarrassed and I'm cringing so hard. I cooked for my family and somehow my brother found a hair in his dish. He stopped eating and commented on how disgusted he was. I wish I died before this happen I'm so stupid I've always feared of hair in food and now I do this!! I'm so dumb i can't believe I did this mistake it's disgusting I hate myself he's my fav brother and he will probably never eat anything I cook from now on. Mom said it was ok and I was overreacting but wtf it is NOT ok I wish I had slipped into coma before my dumbasss decided to cook I can't even look him in the eye I'm so embarrassed and tomorrow we will be going on a family trip and he's gonna be the one driving I can't stay with him in the car it's gonna be awkward and embarrassing and they wouldnt let me stay home they will insist that I go fml I hate myself so much why can't I just cease to exist

It was hard for me to to respond because I don't want you to feel negated. You're having some intense emotions and thoughts. Perhaps I'm misinterpreting, but it doesn't sound like you want to be soothed, it sounds like you want to self-destruct.

So rather than argue with you about what happened and try to bring it down to a more manageable size when to you it feels huge and perhaps you even think it should be that huge, and rather than try to soothe you, I can offer you this: I hear you. I hear that it feels huge, painfully embarrassing, shameful, and that you'd maybe rather be swallowed up and cease to exist because of it. I care that you feel this way, and I wish I could somehow make it better for you. I recognize that I can't, but I hope there is something of value for you in my acknowledgement, caring, and/or wish that I could help.

@WitheringAway, I'm sorry you're taking this so hard. I promise it happens to every cook sooner or later, and among friends and relatives it should just be laughed off. It's not like he found a living seaslug or a tiny spine or pieces of broken glass in his food. Just a hair, with the same DNA as his, and no one was hurt by it, right?

WELCOME to the "HAIR I DON'T CARE" CLUB!!
so.. back in the day i worked in a sushi place as a bar tender right?
obv dream gig cause sushi for dayz! yum!! anyhoo.. i would sometimes go back to the kitchen and learned slowly from our chef how to roll a good one and finally when i perfected my skills he let me roll one out for a table and serve it to them! i was so mf proud!..
then went back behind bar doing my thing when i get called back to that same table.. and when i get there the woman i served the perfect roll to slowly raises her hand holding the first sushi roll and the rest followd up in the air like a pearl neclace (or a but plug?) held by my long (strong- bukharian) hair.. i obv pissed my self with laughter all the way back to the kitchen and was banned from rolling again..

Thank you all so much.. it means a lot that you even took the time to read this. Yes i felt like it was a big deal because my brother didn't even say anything to me (I wasn't eating with them) he came to me and thanked me and said it was delicious. My mom was the one who told me about what he found. I felt bad cus he has diabetes and he had just got his insulin injection so he needed to eat but he didn't. It's my fault. I'm less freaked out about it now but still embarrassed.

Its okay. Trust me. I personally dont care if i find hair. Its not fun but it dont matter either. It happens. He didnt like it, but im sure food was fine, and he will eat again.

You just try to relax. Soon enough that strand of hair will be forgotten. It really happens to everyone, atleast once in a lifetime.

Wow I'm sorry this happened to you. You did not deserve that from your family and their reaction was wrong. It's just a hair, I find them in my food sometimes and often my own! It's really no big deal and again it's wrong they had that reaction. Sending hugs and I hope you're feeling better. For what it's worth, I'd gladly take the odd hair if it means someone else is kind enough to make a home cooked meal!

My biggest worry was always getting a cat hair in whatever I was cooking/making. It's why I rarely made dishes for potlucks and tried to bring drinks, utensils and the like. :) Glad you're feeling better about this!

I would have removed the hair and eaten it all. Also, I would have asked for more.. This is the minimum I could do for my sister who took the time to cook for me or the family.

I fortunately managed to convince them to leave me alone so not going out with them. He's like a father to me and I love him to death but we don't really say I love u and talk about feelings in the family it's how traditions go around here (country, community) they will think you're dumb for saying that

Do you have long hair? You could tie it back in the future to avoid this. Try not to lean over the food either while it's cooking.

Again shit happens, don't beat yourself up over it. You live and you learn. But even still accidents happen.

Yeah my hair is long but I always have it up in a bun when I cook but I guess it was my bangs hair :( and yeah it's a mistake I learned from I will cover my hair completely next time xx
