I just havent been able to get myself to work lately. Does anyone have any ideas on how to motivate myself? I am in college and need to do my work but I am working at home due to covid and cant start. I have to write an essay by monday and I barely read over the requirements. We can do most of our stuff on our own time but I keep procrastinating and its becoming a serious problem. I would appreciate any help, thank you.

I find this as well with college. Personally I find motivation pretty random, but exercise can help. Also if you have enough motivation to complete some small tasks like cleaning I find doing that helps me want to do other stuff. It's hard since it takes motivation to make motivation, but if you do feel motivated at any moment try to take advantage of it in some way.

Thanks I'll try doing that

If you're dealing with depression, it is very formidable and I have no good ideas for that unfortunately. But, as far as getting over just the procrastination piece of it, I found that once I started something it was easier to keep it going. It's incredibly challenging to get that initial push going. If you are viewing a task as a whole and it's too daunting, break it down into smaller and smaller pieces until you can look at a piece and say "yeah i can probably get at least that much done". Instead of "I have a six page paper to write ahh fuck", break it down to "I'm going to write one page worth and take a break" or smaller "I'm going to open Word and put the title at the top. Maybe jot down some ideas for a thesis."

Good luck, I will be sending imaginary motivational vibes to you through the ether.

Well, I wish I was an expert who overcame procrastination... but I'm not. I struggle with it so much just like you. I agree with what cyptic and RealHumanBean said!
I would add that addressing what you're really worried about is really important. And that can sometimes be best done in therapy. If there's anything I would have done differently, it would have been to talk to the school counselor sooner. It's really hard at first. But then eventually you get stronger and life seems a little bit easier.

I motivate myself by doing most of my work in public spaces and moving around. I find a spot that lets me concentrate and then it becomes easier.

Good luck

I also struggle to motivate myself and when I was in college, I was doing things at the last minute. What helped me a little was reminding myself of the consequences of not doing it (paying so much money to get into college to fail and not get my degree). Now that I'm out of college, I struggle to do anything productive which sucks.

Same, I've been like this for months. Bare minimum. Shower, eat and back to the couch to stare blankly at Bob Ross on YouTube for the rest of the day.

Good luck!! The hardest part is the start, once you work past that it gets somewhat easier
