I have come to the conclusion that I am too scared to carry out the act, I have applied to Dignitas, does anyone have experience here in dealing with them? So far, they seem to be very responsive.

It is a frightening thing to do, especially if you have to think about it, which many of us do here, although for some they make it look easy. There's nothing wrong with the conclusion you have come to and I wish you all the best.

Thanks, I just really like the idea of doing it in a controlled environment in case anything goes wrong. I am not really scared of the dying part. But it looks like it will take a few months before I am given the green light from Dignitas. Just have to grit my teeth and be patient.

This should be emblazoned across the top of the forum's homepage. It is genuine truth.

You have my sympathy for the pain you feel, and my admiration for your clarity of mind and self-awareness to reach your decision and avoid the torture of trying to force yourself into something that would make your life worse. And I, too, wish you all the very best.

I have just received the membership pack and have sent the advance directive back to Switzerland. I had to pay 200 Euros for joining and 80 Euros as annual membership fees which is ok. It seems the process is really slow but from my interaction with the staff at Dignitas, they are really helpful and accommodating. I am now gathering my medical files to support me getting the provisional green light so I can be further assessed by their doctors in Switzerland. The staff says the whole approval process normally takes about 3 months ( argh!!!)

For those interested in going this way, I will keep you all apprised of the process.

You're lucky that you're able to afford Dignitas. I wish that I were able to.

Yes, I am lucky and hopefully I can get approved. What long term illness are you suffering from if you don't mind me asking.

3 months is not bad :) For mental illness, they told me via email that it could be 6m -1y or even longer and there is no guarantee for the green light. So, I just give up and finally found n method. Cancer seem to be easier to get approve.

Yeah. The only upside to cancer. But at least you have N.

Yes, at Dignitas they mix the N for you and make sure you die peacefully in a controlled environment. I have n but I prefer to be assured that I would go peacefully hence I would need to wait a few months.

I want this. But with diagnosed clinical depression and anxiety there is no chance of them accepting me.

Do they not understand mental suffering can cause a decrease in standard of life and can be just as torturous and hard to deal with as a physical ailment, even with treatment.

Countries like netherlands and belgium offer this service to their citizens for mental illness as long as you can proove it is a concious choice that is not influenced by the mental illness.

@IfHeDiesHeDies ,

I don't mean to pry, but are you concerned of anything in particular?

For me, tolerance is a concern and surviving with brain damage
