(For reference I live in the shitty ol' USA)

Hypothetically. If I were to message someone and tell them I am going to ctb and say goodbye and back and forth with them- then I ctb - would that person get in any legal trouble for knowing that I was going to ctb and not taking action? I don't want my death to cause anyone legal issues.

In this hypothetical the person I'm messaging is suicide neutral and wouldn't promote or discourage the action.

Thanks in Advance for taking the time to answer
Anna
Edit to add I do understand this may vary by state

AFAIK only mandated reporters [teachers, medical workers, police, etc.] can face legal action for ignoring suicidal remarks.

Anna,

There are a lot of specifics that I cannot address, but having worked in the legal system, I'm going to say that (again very generally speaking) unfortunately the answer is probably. If an "ordinary person" has a "reasonable expectation" that your are in imminent danger and they don't notify the authorities at the very least they will have to endure a pretty traumatic investigation. I'm really sorry my answer isn't more positive -- it seems like people (in general) would be more understanding of the pain we live with, but alas, that is not so.

I hope you find the peace you (and we all) seek.

As far as criminal legal action is concerned I think they'd be ok. But it doesn't stop anyone from suing them for wrongful death if it got out. People in the US sue people all the time for all sorts of bullshit reasons. I would advise that person to stay quiet, and if questioned say s/he didn't think you were serious.
