I haven't but I'd like to but if I remember correctly my dad has. I can ask him later and see what he says, I was planning on it anyway.

Absolutely, I've been practising hypnosis/hypnotherapy since I was 14 (I'm 27 now), and with the right techniques and an experienced practitioner, it's not just about helping people to give up smoking or conquer their fear of heights. As I've mentioned elsewhere on the forum, I specialise in treating gut disorders through hypnosis and that process encompasses both "pure hypnosis", relaxation techniques such as mindfulness and therapy techniques (such as CBT, DBT or Emotional Regulation etc). The combination of all of these techniques is what makes hypnotherapy so powerful.

It's not a miracle cure and it still takes a great deal of time and effort, but if you find a good practitioner and work hard it can have a significant positive impact on your life. I'll use my ex-partner as an example. She used to suffer from crippling anxiety attacks, near-constant nausea to the point she could barely eat, weakness in her legs, restless leg syndrome every night and profuse sweating, double depression, night terrors and attachment issues, it got so bad that she actually started having blackouts one of which led to her having a car accident (thankfully not serious, but it could have been). I worked hard with her over a period of months using all of the techniques I've described above and we cured most of those issues together. She's continuing with another therapist to keep working on the more deep-rooted issues but she has recovered to the extent that she was recently able to withdraw from antipsychotic medication for the first time in over ten years, and cut her dose of antidepressants right down.

As I said, it's not a miracle cure, it takes a lot of hard work and everybody will respond differently and at different rates, but if you haven't investigated the option then I thoroughly recommend exploring it. I'm a little biased of course, but if you ignore a lot of the marketing spiel and focus on the scientific side of the practice then it's a safe and effective treatment that often seems to get overlooked.

Any questions, feel free to tag me or drop a message.

I started hypnotherapy and it was really relaxing, plus it had the added advantage of helping me catch up on sleep during the appointments.

I don't know what the therapist said to me during the treatment but it definitely helped.

But my girlfriend left me recently because she claims that I would often black out and act like a chicken.

I don't recall ever doing this.

Would recommend.

I couldn't do it. I simply couldn't seem to think in the way my hypnotherapist was telling me to think. He told me that's how people's minds work. Really? Well mine doesn't work like that. I was really interested in it as the theory sounded good, but it had no effect on me whatsoever.

I would too. It seems nothing that could help me now is within the realms of possibility. It's a horrible feeling. I tried it but like Underscore it didn't seem to work. I felt a bit more positive the rest of that day but I think it's because I wanted to. I don't even think I went under. Maybe some people just can't or maybe another would work for me. I don't know, it's expensive. Worth a try once

It worked for me, but I think it was more the relationship I had with the hypnotherapist. She genuinely cared for me and vice versa.
