I think maybe 25%. But I am not sure. What are your thoughts? There are not that many greyed out members on this forum.
Prolifers always claim we would worship suicide. I don't think so. I think many of us just don't have good other options. ANd we just deal with a lot of suicide thoughts.

To be honest here, not all users know how to disable their account before ctb and I don't blame them.
You have to remember that there are people here, who are even over 40yo and it's kinda like teaching them how to use MacOS after they've been using Windows over all the years.

Statistics about this are not available, and will never be.

Note that this is a public forum. There are people CTB'ing, without ever creating an account.

I probably won't disable mine, as I don't want to be tied to a possibly identifying date of death. I will instead destroy all pathways back to this site, at least from my end. I think there are other factors besides being older and miffed by technology, which would interfere with being able to tell the percentage of those who visited this place and actually ended up going through with their suicide.

There are not that many greyed out members on this forum.
Also have to take into account many cases where individuals don't request ban/strikethrough before attempting and die anyway (and cases of people practicing and ctb'ing unknowingly). For me personally, asking for a ban, and writing a goodbye post puts too much pressure on me to succeed because I don't want to survive and be left with the embarrassment of having to explain why I'm still here. I'm just gonna leave the account up and if I don't login for an extended period of time people will just know.

I probably won't disable mine, as I don't want to be tied to a possibly identifying date of death.
That's the part I'm afraid of. I don't want my death tracing back to this site either. It'd be difficult to keep track of everyone without exposing this site. I was trying to see if there was a way to message the mods confidentially to tell them to look out for a news clip/paper/obituary about a student from "x" school in "y" state so they could use that as confirmation but idk. I might just ctb when the time comes and not bring attention to it

Ha ha ha! :)) You certainly underestimate "old" people. You're only 20 something, aren't you?

My guess is that less than 5 % of all the members of this community commit suicide. A very small percentage of all members post in the forum so posts here are not a very good indication.

There's no way of knowing it because not all of them disable their accounts and there are many guests and lurkers who might just get the info they need and ctb without creating an account.

I think 25% could be the answer too. Maybe 15% at least.

IDK. What an interesting question. I heard this story one time that 100% of people everywhere actually die no matter if they come to a site like this or not but that could just be gossip.

"A permanent solution to a temporary problem."

Seems like this world is only "temporary" but nobody wants to face up to that reality.

I think it's probably higher than average compared to the outside world/statistics, especially when it comes to successful attempts. Going through an old thread it's quite humbling to see how many have passed, especially if you knew them. But it's not that surprising either. Yes, this place saved a lot of people, but for many it's also the last stop of a long journey.

Personally, I'll either ask for a ban or leave a gb message on my wall. Don't really want to become "Deleted Member 12446".

No one knows for sure. It would be nice if we have a thread to list past users who CTB. I'm surprised that SS doesn't have some kind of memorial thread to confirm that the user has died.

I feel like that would be incredibly difficult to keep track of, considering some members don't delete their account but stopped posting on their account. It would be a good idea though if there were an easier way to keep track of members who did successfully ctb.

Once in a while There are threads made to remember old members. Some are confirmed as well as they can be by their fellow friends that they made here and offline. I just saw one maybe a month ago with a pretty long list of users who were gone.

Most people seem to recover and leave the site once they get too busy to chat here anymore. Others stay here for community and support, because this place is a safe haven for us and we have nowhere else to go. There are also quite a few members who have probably slipped out of this world without telling a soul, and didn't want to announce it or cross their names out.

There are several people here who I know for a fact have gone because I've seen their obituary or they've completely dropped off all social media and messaging platforms, but didn't ban themselves here for whatever reason.

It is sad to see all the crossed out names. I miss so many of them, even if I never got to converse one on one with a lot of members who have passed.

Very good. I think its also soooo important to realise that world wide or even nation wide , depending on where we live, we have a huge huge huge suicide rate. Blaming SS for 800, 0000 deaths annually is just weakness. Many many people CTB every day without the internet, without studying a method, without having a place to cry out at all. Thousands a day take their own lives to escape this place. I know this is kinda a different subject but many topics here always fall under the same thing. We are sad as a people. Many of us decide to give up on that BS game which is what it seems to be here in this world a game. I think at most we see 300 to 500 users here at a time which shows how little our numbers here are already. Compare that to the large number of national CTB rates in the largest countries here and its easy to see how small our community is compared to the "monster" that society tries to hide. A million people per year is my metropolitan city 5 times over every year. Looking out my mountain balcony that's a horrible reality as I only see a city of beautiful people. This is very sad.

"(WHO) estimates that each year approximately one million people die from suicide, which represents a global mortality rate of 16 people per 100,000 or one death every 40 seconds."

yeah probably. I´d tweak it to 1-2%. I mean just by looking at the global rate at which people succeed, from the many that attempt...it´s slim. Probably a bit higher here on SS though

I can believe that, I think a lot of people come here knowing they're gonna kill themselves, but want to know how to achieve it through a more accurate or/and peaceful method.

This chart tells so many fascinating stories. Russia being #1 doesn't surprise me (neither does Ukraine close behind), although I'd imagine it's a lot lower now compared to the immediate post-Soviet era.
Would've expected Japan to be higher up on the list, judging by the countless reports of subways being delayed due to suicide attempts on their tracks.
Also seeing male suicides higher than female almost everywhere seems about right, although you have to keep in mind that the success rate for women is much lower (I'd imagine because they're less likely to use guns). India, China, and Pakistan seem to be the only exceptions, which tells a depressing story about gender relations there.
I'd also love to see stats on the success rates by country. They talk about how gun restrictions would cut down on suicides, but in reality all it would do is turn them into unsuccessful attempts and permanently damaged lives.
I can believe that, I think a lot of people come here knowing they're gonna kill themselves, but want to know how to achieve it through a more accurate or peaceful method.
This right here. If anything, the (few) people who come here "on the fence" about CTB are more likely to meet new friends who understand them, and maybe discover some new purpose that makes life worth living for them. If your goal is saving lives, that's how you do it. Not by suppressing accurate information and leading more people to try bad methods out of desperation.

Mind the gap, increase female suicide..?

Someday before we actually start "fixing this world" we will have legal suicide for everyone. They will have parties livestreamed for celebrities and regular folk as they live their final days before peaceful assisted publicized live suicide. Just like getting slimmed on Nickelodeon.

Hahahahaha haha I'm in my late 30s I guess that's super old for a 20 something but was kind of funny what he said. :D))))) I think he was 6 when I got my first iPhone :D)))))))))
But many ask to be crossed and don't die after their attempt and we don't know if they got brain damage but are still alive.

2% of people who have ever been treated for depression ctb. 4% of people who have been hospitalised for depression ctb. 6% of people hospitalised for depression following a suicide attempt ctb.

We might get a vague idea of the suicide rate here by conducting a poll asking people which category they belong to, if any. Based on the above information, I'd estimate 3%-5% of SS members ctb.
