i have a fear of not properly experiencing my death. dying in my sleep sounds so horrible, i'll never get to experience that wave of peace and closure people always describe feeling when they're close to death.

i also hear about a lot of methods where you lose consciousness before you die. but also dying with like. a gunshot to the head would mean my brain isnt working to let me see my own death.

do i make sense in this? what methods would allow me to experience what i'm describing?

i'm not planning to ctb anytime soon but if i ever do, i want to have a method in mind that lets me be able to enjoy it properly.

Are you talking about remaining conscious immediately before, or during brain death? I've never heard of that occurring ever.

I think I know what you mean like I wish that when I finally die, I could have that moment of peace and like phew I did it, I'm okay now - no longer suffering and it worked. I want that moment of peace. I guess people do get it, but I've seen old people die bc I worked at a nursing home, and even they lose consciousness and aren't really aware near the end, so now I wonder if anyone really gets that. I think some people make peace with it towards the end but probably not a lot of people during it until their last breath and obviously not after. Unless we all become ghosts lol. I guess I'm trying to just make peace with all that before I do it and hope I don't suffer too much and that I never wake up.

i really think you should research drowning. i know it seems terrifying and painful, but that moment of serenity you're describing i think is best evident there.

when you're holding your breath for long enough, your reflexes eventually take over and your body will forcibly gasp for air. when you're drowning and you're underwater; however, your lungs will just completely fill up with water. that momentary part is yes, pretty painful and is described as an overwhelming burning sensation, but once your lungs completely fill, the burning stops. the struggle stops, and it's essentially just tranquility. a momentary, euphoric feeling. these are from accounts of people who drowned and were later resuscitated.

for as long as possible until full brain death. i don't know, i might just be thinking too hopefully.

i've always thought i would ctb by hanging, but im not sure if it would have the desired effect

That is interesting to think about but yeah even excluding methods to ctb, I've never heard of anyone being killed and staying conscious long enough to matter before brain death.

By hanging you'd fall unconscious a good bit before from a lack of oxygen.

are you talking about near/post-death experience? im assuming everything leaving the brain intact and not drugged, e.g. loss of oxygen/blood leading to death, would make that possible. it might be helpful to research studies on this, i think there are some.

There's an urban legend that in Asia, monkeys have their skulls removed so their brains can be eaten while still alive.

If you find a crazy scientist, a Dr. Mengele 2.0, he might be able to help you. Not out of culinary interest, but out of scientific curiosity. He would gradually remove more and more parts of your brain, and you would have to tell him how you feel about it, for as long as you can.
