To choose one person to talk to over a lot of others, you'd have to have things in common, and you'd also have to send a few messages to them on a thread, but most threads have responses from many people and are more a heap of thoughts than conversation. Also, you'd think people wouldn't have one-on-one conversations in threads to avoid hijacking the thread. But if you don't have one-on-one conversations, then how do you even know if you wanted to PM them?
Maybe you find someone whose posts you agree with and who you want to PM, but then what do you say to them? "Let's PM"? Wouldn't you have to give a reason?
You'd think you'd avoid saying that they seem like an interesting person because that can come across as quite rude to other people on the thread. You could say that you just want to discuss methods, but then you'd probably be expected to start your own thread for that.
What do people on here even PM each other about? And how do they find someone to PM? It just seems a bit of a tricky system.
