How do I stop partial hanging from hurting?

From what I understand, it's supposed to be painless. But whenever I've been about to try it, it's always hurt really badly. What am I doing wrong?

I've heard of people taking sedatives and then hanging, or a very strong drug
It hurts terribly, you're right, it burns my jaw and I can feel all of my teeth in my mouth
