I don't think anyone knows how. Most likely didn't cut the wrists, that usually fails. In my opinion, if it were the wrists, I think we would know it. Either way, I suggest never resorting to the cutting method.

Some sources also claim he slit his throat (some have refuted this), but the details have never been released to the public (rightfully so). I imagine he probably drank before doing it, maybe also took some drug to help with SI. He must have been in a lot of emotional pain at that time to resort to that method, given that he had the money and resources to use a more peaceful method.
